EUNICE JEAN O'DONOVAN Eunice passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Monday, November 21, 2011. Eunice is survived by her partner and husband of 54 years Ron, son Kevin (Heather) and her two special grandchildren Shawn (Brittany, fiancée) and Aynsley. Eunice will also be missed by her brother Don (Louise) McLachlan, brother-in-law Jack Kohen numerous nieces, nephews, neighbours and close friends. Eunice was predeceased by her parents Ernest and Ellen (Dolly) McLachlan, and her brother Robert. Eunice was born in Boissevain, MB and following high school graduation, she enrolled and graduated from Angus Commercial College and assumed the position of Executive Secretary to the Circulation Manager at the Winnipeg Tribune. In 1960 she left the Tribune prior to the birth of Kevin. As an interested parent and member of the Grant Park/Harrow community since 1957, Eunice was involved in numerous school and community projects at both Harrow and Grant Park High Schools. She served over 30 years on various Red River Exhibition Committees and took a great deal of pride along with Ron hosting Parade Officials as part of the annual Red River Exhibition. Prior to her passing, she was a member of the RREX Honorary Council. Her community volunteering also included The Princess Elizabeth Hospital Guild, and was famous for her shortbread cookies and fancy sandwiches. In 1986, Eunice and Ron developed The Grow a Row program in support of the Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank. The program has grown all across North America helping numerous food banks and countless less fortunate people from all walks of life. In 2002, she received The Queen's Jubilee Medal for her volunteer and community service work. Her favourite volunteer project was developing the Kids Who Care program, which recognizes young people who make Winnipeg Harvest part of their volunteer commitment. The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses and care givers at The Riverview Health Centre, especially Dr. Marcelo Garcia and Bonnie Booth, R.N. The entire team of professionals at CancerCare Manitoba for their many years of support and care, along with her family doctor Dr. Ahluwalla. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Kids Who Care program, c/o of Winnipeg Harvest, 1085 Winnipeg Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 2S2. Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, November 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
