ANDREW HUGH MURRAY April 28, 1925 - November 19, 2011 Hugh passed away at the Deer Lodge Centre after a lengthy illness. He is survived by brothers Angus (Norma), Malcolm (Doreen) and Thom (Marilyn), and many nieces and nephews. Shortly after graduation from D.M.C.I. he joined the Navy and served on the HMSC Swift Current, a minesweeper in the North Atlantic. After returning from the war Hugh enrolled in United College and graduated with an Arts degree. After graduation Hugh worked for the Royal Bank. After several years Hugh opened up an Insurance Agency, but after a number of years decided to move on to teaching and taught in Winnipeg School Division #1 at Luxton, J.B. Mitchell, Aberdeen, and Sisler. In addition to his vocation as a teacher, Hugh was involved in many areas. He served terms as a President of the Manitoba Teachers Credit Union and The University of Winnipeg Alumni Association. He was also a member of Branch #1 Legion and the St. Andrew's Society. Hugh was active in coaching and officiating in track and field as well as being Mayor of the Village of Dunnottar for three terms. Cremation has taken place and an interment will take place at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church Cemetery, Springstein, MB at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2011. A Memorial Service will also be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, with Pastor Marla Langelotz officiating. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Lawn Reception Centre. Special thanks to the special staff of Deer Lodge Tower 5 for their amazing, loving care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Hugh to the David Suzuki Foundation, 219 - 2211 W 4th Ave., Vancouver, BC V6K 4S2 or charity of one's choice.
