VALERIE WASNY It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and aunt to the hands of God on November 22, 2011 with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Anne Luchka. She leaves to mourn her husband Joseph, sons Garrett, Brett (Sharon) and Lance, grandchildren Cameron and Cole, her sister Pearl Evertoski (Ed), her nieces Carol Turton and Gail Cain and many relatives and friends. Valerie was born and raised in Rossdale, MB and worshipped at Rossdale Ukrainian Catholic Church. In 1950, she taught grades one to eight at Skylake, MB. In 1951, she moved to Winnipeg and joined the Royal Bank of Canada. She was a proud employee of the bank for more than 40 years until her retirement in 1994. She was highly active in numerous church and charity groups: the Catholic Women's League for over 30 years; St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Transcona; Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church in Selkirk; and the House of Economy store in Selkirk. Valerie's greatest love was her family. She married Joseph Wasny on September 20, 1958, gave birth to three sons and was blessed with grandsons in 1994 and 1996. She provided unconditional support to her sons and grandsons in all their school, work and leisure activities and spent many joyous summers with them at the family cottage near Clearwater Bay, ON. Valerie was more than a dedicated mother and wife, she was a guardian angel who was always there to brighten the lives of others. She was an exceptional woman and a wonderful friend who was loved by all who knew her at home, work and in the community. Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Fr. Dado Parrenas officiating. Interment will follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery Columbarium.
