JEAN LOUISE RYZ (nee YAKIELASHEK) Peacefully after a courageous battle with Parkinson's, Dimentia and Alzheimers we announce the passing of Jean Ryz on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home at the age of 89 years. Left to forever cherish Jean's memory are daughter Valerie; sons Gerald (Donna), Vincent (Diane) and James (Lynn); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother Vincent (Anne) of Kelowna; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph on November 22, 2000; parents Joseph and Anna Yakielashek; brothers Michael, Joseph, Steve and Andrew; sister Mary Sopel, and grandson Derek Bergen in 1979. Jean was born on April 24, 1922 in Sifton, MB. She spent her early years on the family farm and was educated in Sifton. After completing her education she worked in Winnipeg for a period before returning to Sifton where she was married on April 23, 1944 to Joseph Ryz. Together, they raised four children while establishing the family farm. Farm life, at the time, was a full time job every day of the year but, as the years passed, they were able to enjoy the fruits of their labours and travelled to the U.S. as well as numerous Canadian destinations and eventually they even vacationed in Mexico and Hawaii. Jean and Joe were very active in the Sifton Catholic Church and when that closed, they transferred their energy to the Dauphin Church. In 1990, they sold the farm in Sifton and relocated to Winnipeg where they became active members of Mary Mother of the Church parish. They could always be found helping at the church garage sales, fall suppers and any other activity available at the church . The church was a very important part of their lives. Jean was a member of the C.W.L. for many, many years. Mom was a very kind person who never let anyone leave her home hungry. All her life she maintained a large garden (or three) for the family so, while we were not rich, we were never without. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive with Fr. Kevin Bettens, presiding. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Michael Ryz, Jason Ryz, Andrew Ryz, Matthew Ryz, Shawn Bergen and Nicholas Ryz. Honorary pallbearers will be Jean's nephews: Ken Yakielashek, Tommy Yakielashek, Martin Yakielashek and Alphonse Sopel. The family would like to thank all staff at The St. Norbert Personal Care Home for their terrific care and the staff at Riverwood Square where mom resided for a few years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jean's memory to the St. Norbert Personal Care Home, 50 St. Pierre St., Winnipeg, MB R3V 1J6. Mom received excellent care and was always treated with respect and dignity. ...she walked in beauty; she gave so much, and demanded so little, ...and now she is resting peacefully with Jesus in that beautiful Home above
