WILLIAM MARTIN COWIESON It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of William Martin Cowieson on November 23, 2011, at the age of 87. Bill's memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; his son Brian (Raelene); granddaughters, Kiarra and Keshia; two great grandsons, Kaiden and Kye, one remaining brother Allen (Jean) of Arbroath, Scotland, and many nieces and nephews. Born April 9, 1924 in Inverurie, Scotland to James and May Cowieson. He was raised in Aberdeen, Scotland along with his seven brothers and sisters. He served in the British army during the Second World War, and landed in Normandy June 6, 1944. After the war William married his life partner Elizabeth on May 1, 1948. In May of 1957 he and his family immigrated to Canada, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He worked at Greyhound Canada for over 30 years, retiring to an acreage in the municipality of Lac du Bonnet. Bill was very proud of the home he and his wife built in retirement, and it was evident in the pristine flower gardens and the care given to the property. He loved a good laugh and could be a bit of a joker. He enjoyed socializing with his many friends, dancing, listening to Scottish music, spending time with their beloved dog Scotty, and took great pleasure in feeding wild birds and watching the wildlife. Bill was predeceased by his parents James and May; brothers, Eric, Calais, Jock, Sam, and sisters, Kathy and Nan. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff of Beausejour Hospital for their compassion and the wonderful care given to Dad during his time with them. They enabled him to have a peaceful and easy journey to the other side and for this we are forever grateful. A celebration of Bill's life will take place in Beausejour on Sunday, December 4 at 1:30 p.m., at the Brokenhead River Community Hall, 320 Veterans Lane. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Bill's name to the charity that he supported - The World Wildlife Fund. Deep peace of the running waves to you. Deep peace of the flowing air to you. Deep peace of the watching shepherds to you. Deep peace of the Son of Peace to you. Amen.
