MILDRED DRAYSON (CHISHOLM)
Date of Passing: Nov 18, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMILDRED DRAYSON (CHISHOLM) Mom passed away at the age of 82 on November 18, 2011 with her girls at her side. She was predeceased by her husband Ross. Left to cherish her memory children Robyn, Lee, and Garth, whom Mom and Dad devoted their hearts and lives to. As well as grandchildren Brittany, Quinn, and Courtney, brother Mark and Elaine Chisholm, and sister Betty Chisholm. Mom was the most amazing woman, nothing was too much to do for her girls from travelling the world to the best birthday parties ever! We truly could not have chosen a more love filled life. Mom was very happy spending many summers at Nutimik Lake fishing with Aunty Joyce, catching the largest sturgeon of that time. The many evenings playing cards with Gerry and Lorraine and times spent playing the piano for friends and family will forever be remembered. Mom's second love was teaching. It was her life calling, spending most of her career at Windsor School, spending summers teaching summer school and working with the University education students. She also was very proud of the work and time she spent co-developing the math program for the School of the Deaf. After Dad passed away, she came to live with Garth and I, sharing her love with her grandchildren. Mom's last four years she lived at RPG, where she had the strength of the mighty fighting off illnesses most of her life, never letting it affect her zest for life. Nothing was going to slow her down. She was the hardest working woman I've ever known. Her dedication to our family was a lesson we all have learned and must carry on! If Mom could have spoken, she would have wanted to thank the loving care givers at RPG. Instead, when you think of her, remember her few words: Birthday, Wonderful, Piano, No Trouble, and the strongest of all, I told you three times! We all knew what that meant. I would like to thank, with all my heart, two special ladies, Gail and Anne. They loved Mom unconditionally. They took time daily to always say hello and hold her hand or just sit next to her. They were Mom's angels on earth. Your love for Mom will never be forgotten. Words alone cannot express the love and comfort shown to Mom and family by Nancy. She went above and beyond our highest dreams. She made sure Mom was always safe, loved and cared for. You are now our wonder woman. Please carry on and remember she loved you very much. Look up and gain strength as she can now walk, talk, and see, she can eat all the Kit-Kats she wants. In Mom's memory, give someone a hug every day, it means more than we can ever know. Garth, Mom loved you more than she could ever tell you. You are an amazing man to have cared for Mom in the way you did, with daily trips to feed her dinner. Think of her words Garth: I love him!! Forever loved and missed, we will carry on your love and strength as you taught us! Private family service to be held in Neepawa.

A true gem of a lady and I'm sure she'll be missed greatly. Always loved her sense of humour and her spirit! Her ability to see past facades and fronts and get right to the heart of people was a rare gift indeed. Sorry to hear of her passing. xoxo - Posted by: Pepper () on: Nov 02, 2012

Mrs. Drayson was my home room teacher as well as my math teacher when my family moved to Winnipeg from New Jersey in 1960. I had difficulty adjusting, and she was very patient and helpful to me. I deeply regret not having seen her last fall when I passed through on my way to Churchill, but I did walk by the school and thought of her then. So sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Patrick McDonald (Student) on: May 13, 2012

Below are some of the comments I received after passing on the news that Mrs. Drayson had passed away. I had her home room grade 5 and grade 9 and she was bar none the best, most helpful, and considerate teacher I ever had in my whole life! When I missed 2 months of school in grade 5, she gave me extra class time for weeks and brought me right up to speed with the rest of the class!! I am starting to tear up!! Thanks for that information. She was a lovely woman! She was my hoom room teacher, a wonderful lady (and a "looker") - a great & patient teacher. I think she was the best teacher that I ever had. She made me want to learn. Thanks for the notice. Mrs. Drayson was one of the best. We were lucky. Not only was she exceptionally kind and thoughtful, constantly demonstrating the gift of patience, but also I remember her as being extremely attractive with beautiful long hair which made it a lot easier for a boy who would rather be outside consider the wonders of Algebra and Trigonometry. I wonder if I am allowed to say stuff like that in 2012? I had Mrs Drayson as a teacher in Grade 5 in a combined 5&6 class where the Gr6 were the 8 toughest boys in Windsor School. There were a total of 44 in the class and she was masterful. I also had her for Math in Junior High. She was a great lady and a great teacher. Thanks for passing this on, She was my favourite teacher! I remember her fondly as a very pleasant person and great teacher. Mrs. Drayson was my homeroom teacher. I had her as my home room teacher before she was married also but can't remember her maiden name. She was probably the nicest teacher I ever had and she was so pretty and dressed really well. Mrs. Drayson was my hero, she taught me that mathematics was a contact sport. She always had wood and cardboard boxes and measuring sticks, stuff you could hold in your hand and understand. I could talk to her when I could not with my parents. Mildred Drayson and Harvey Pearce were the two best teachers I ever had!! I have thought of them constantly throughout my life!! - Posted by: Janice Iverach Wasik on behalf of many of her former students (former student who coordinates a partial alumni list for mini-reunions) on: May 13, 2012

Some people are never forgotten. Mildred Drayson was one of those special human beings. An unsure 10 year old thought the world of her because I always felt she thought the same of me. She made me feel special even though at times I struggled in school. Following a very gifted older sibling was not an easy thing. In grade 5 I achieved a 100% on a final math exam. Mildred made such a big deal of it; it was so wonderful! Mrs. Drayson was the teacher who sent me on my way. God bless her and all her family! Sincerely John M. "Mrs. Drayson" was my favorite teacher at Windsor School; I remember that she had no trouble keeping the class orderly without yelling or throwing chalk (chuckle re other teacher there). It was wonderful to read about her. Thinking about those kitkat bars...Sally - Posted by: Sally Monteith, formerly Shinn and Bradstock (Student at Windsor School) on: May 12, 2012

I have very fond memories of Mrs. Drayson. She taught me to love math and to love learning. She always had time to help you out...so sad. She always had cookies for you if you were passing her little white house (with blue trim) on St. Vital Rd. - Posted by: Bob Sharman (Student at Windsor 1960's) on: May 12, 2012

When I had a spinal fusion in grade 5, I missed two months of school. Ms. Drayson spent hours and hours with me and before the end of the year was over, I was all caught up and passed with honours. And this was when she was teaching a gr5/Gr6 split!! I am having trouble holding back my tears!! - Posted by: Tony Dadson (her student in gr 5,7,8 and 9 at windsor from 1955 to 1960) on: May 12, 2012

Mrs. Drayson was a huge influence in my life. She had confidence in my abilities, and her confidence raised my self-esteem immeasurably. She always made you feel that you were important to her. When I began teaching in Ontario, I wanted to make a difference in students' lives the way she made a difference in mine. I hope she would have been proud of how I turned out by trying to follow her example. - Posted by: Linda (Muckle) White (former student at Windsor) on: May 12, 2012
