Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEVE ECKHARDT It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden but peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather Steve Eckhardt on Friday, November 25, 2011. He was born in Podhradie, Slovakia on June 23, 1921. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife Mary, daughter Irene Capka (Joe), grandchildren Shelley Fillion (Dean), grandson Trevor Capka, great-grandchildren Alex and Hailey Fillion, and Kyley and Evan Capka. He also leaves a sister Anne Brasko (Jerry), sister-in-law Emma Eckhardt and nieces and nephews, Carol Lee (Bruce), Ronnie (Lynne), Adele (Darren), Susan (Glenn) and their families. Surviving also are his stepchildren Alan Antoski (Chris), Renee Antoski, Glen Antoski (Maureen) and their children Jason (Heidi), Johnny (Christy), Joel, Matthew, Jordyn, Bryn and Kylee and step-great-granddaughter Alisha. Also mourning his loss are his many relatives in Slovakia that he enjoyed during his many visits back home. Steve was predeceased by his father John Eckhardt, his stepfather Joseph Cernansky, his mother Adele Cernansky, brothers John and Kam, and his son Albert in infancy. Steve came to Canada at the age of 17 with his whole family to begin a new life in Dugald. He was a successful dairy and mixed grain farmer and was very involved in the Slovak community. He was one of the co-founders of the Slovak Visitation of Our Lady Church and was chairperson of the Parish Council for many years. He enjoyed his retirement in Winnipeg at the Columbus House making many new friends. His life revolved around his family and his many lifelong friends in Dugald and Winnipeg. A private family service will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home to celebrate his life. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Steve's name to a charity of one's choice. You are no longer in our life to share, but will be in our hearts forever Rest in Peace.
