EDITH WILLIAMS Edith Williams passed away November 25, 2011. A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau St. N. Full obituary to follow.
EDITH WILLIAMS Edith Williams, loved and respected by family and friends, passed away November 25, 2011. Born in Arcola, Saskatchewan, Edith was predeceased by her parents Archdeacon and Mrs. S. Williams. She is survived by her sister Margery Miller of Calgary, brother Geoffrey (Avril) and nephew Melvin Nieckar of Bulyea, Saskatchewan. Also nephew D. Scott Miller (Anne Marie) of Chad, Africa and their children Rachel and Russell, nieces Nancy Miller (Pam) and Laura (Keith) Nicholson and their children Geoffrey and Scott, all of Calgary. Edith will be fondly remembered by her many cousins in Great Britain. The family would like to express their appreciation to Debbie Norman, Ruth English and Nancy Wilson for their many acts of kindness and their devotion to Edith over the past few years. We are also appreciative of Edith's many other wonderful friends for their visits, their cards and their prayers. Special thanks to all of Edith's caregivers, particularly to friend and companion, Bella Letourneau. Edith joined the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service in 1945. She remained active as a Reserve Wren of H.M.C.S. Chippewa, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. She was the administrative assistant to the Dean at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Dentistry. After 28 years in this position, she was inducted as an Honorary Fellow of the International College of Dentistry. She was a faithful member of St. Luke's Anglican Church. Edith was the consummate volunteer. Members of the Manitoba Naturalists Society, Hospice and Palliative Care, Friendship Force, Wildlife Rehabilitation, Manitoba Crafts Guild, Canadian Nature Federation, and Age and Opportunity will all remember her dedication and strong leadership skills. Through her community involvement she established a wide-range of friends, all of whom she greatly valued. An avid cross-country skier in her 40s, she moved on to canoeing, hiking, scuba diving and finally purchasing a bike at the age of 68. Edith was active and fit, loved and appreciated the arts, was an avid traveller, and always found time to enjoy the company of good friends. A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau Street North. In 1982 I became Treasurer of Manitoba Naturalists Society, Edith was one of the many fine members I enjoyed then & now. I have good memories of her insight, humour & energy. These also showed during many years as my financial client. I'll donate to Nature Manitoba in her memory.
