SHIRLEY SLOBODIAN (THOMPSON) (nee SCOTT) Sadly, but peacefully, our mom Shirley passed away at the Pembina Place Personal Care home on Monday, November 28, 2011. Mom was born the youngest of five siblings, on August 6, 1933, on the family farm in Boissevain, MB. She moved to the city of Winnipeg at an early age due to the untimely death of her mother. She spent many years working for the TD Bank, where she met our Dad (Robert Thompson). Mom became a single parent while we were still young; her first priority was always her children. She displayed a very strong work ethic, with courage and grace. Mom suffered for many years with fibromyalgia and was recently hospitalized due to the effects of a stroke. She was just beginning to feel quite comfortable in her new home. She was predeceased by her parents: Margaret Irene Donley, and Russell George Scott, as well as, Ken Murchison, Robert Thompson. She is survived by her children: Geoff Thompson (Doris), Kathryn Dupuis (Don), Janis Smith (Brad), grandchildren: Breanne Fraese (Chris), Amy Dupuis (Fabio), Robert Dupuis, Bret and Jenna Thompson, great-grandson Jordan Fraese. Mom is also survived by her siblings: Margaret Murchison, Phyllis Amos, George Scott (Joyce), Dorothy Scott, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends. We, her children, would like to thank the staff at Pembina Place for providing such a safe and caring environment for our mother. As well, we would like to thank the nursing staff at St. Boniface Hospital ward 5B, especially Baya, Grace and Des for going above and beyond for all of us. A celebration of life (informally a going away party) for Mom will be held Friday, December 2, 2011, 2:00 p.m. at the Glen Lawn Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, we request that all memorial donations be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca.
