She passed peacefully with family by her side following respiratory complications. Funeral service will take place at St. Boniface Cathedral on Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. She will be interred in Woodridge cemetery with other members of the LaFortune family. More specific information to follow in tomorrow's paper.
ANITA L. BALZER (nee LAFORTUNE) It is with deep regret we announce the passing of our beloved mother Anita, the morning of November 25, 2011. She passed peacefully with family by her side following respiratory complications. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Brenda) and Derrick (Marg); proud Gramma B to Cory, Brianna and Connor; her two sisters, Marguerite Petit (Georges) and Ida Appelmans; sisters-in-law, Fernande LaFortune, Katie Rogalsky, Edna Krahn (Jake); brothers-in-law, George Forbes, David Balzer, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Dan; parents, Georges and Eugenie LaFortune; brothers and sisters, Joseph (Elsie), Irene (William Clifford), Marcien, Berthe, Jeannette (Felix Cormier), Cecile (Marcel Philipot), Hubert, Therese (Clifford Sutherland), Edouard, Yvonne (Rodger Brodie), Georgette; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Frans Appelmans, Abe Rogalsky, Joyce Balzer, George Balzer. The youngest of 14 children, Anita was born March 20, 1931. She attended school at St. Joachim in La Broquerie, St. Jean Baptiste and completed high school at Daniel MacIntyre. She married Dan in 1954 and moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1971. She was a willing participant/organizer in social events for her fellow employees at Hotel Dieu Hospital (Retired 1991). She entertained through song with the Windsor Chapter of Sweet Adeline's. As a practicing member of the Catholic faith, C.W.L., she was also an avid volunteer for many charitable and community programs such as Meals on Wheels, Cancer Society and Multiple Sclerosis. She cherished her family and was an active supporter of her grandchildren in sporting and social events. Funeral service will take place at St. Boniface Cathedral on Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 a.m. She will be interred in Woodridge Cemetery with other members of the LaFortune family. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to The Alzheimer's Society of Windsor, www.alzheimerwindsor.com and/or the Lung Association of Ontario at olalung@on.lung.ca.
