DOROTHY HAMBLIN Mrs. Dorothy Hamblin, aged 88 years, of Morris, beloved wife of the late Lloyd Hamblin, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at the Red River Valley Lodge. The funeral service will be held at the Morris United Church on Saturday, December 3 at 1:30 p.m. Complete details will follow in tomorrow's newspaper. DOROTHY MARJORIE HAMBLIN (nee BINDING) Peacefully on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 Dorothy Hamblin of Morris passed away at the Red River Valley Lodge at the age of 88. Dorothy leaves behind her daughter, Marian (Lyle) Beattie and their daughters Heather (friend Bob Kirk) and Colleen; sons Don (Rhonda) and their sons Brad (Kari), Keith (Monika), and Lorne (Chris) and their sons David (Lorraine), Kevin (Jenelle), and Doug (friend Janine Scott); as well as two great- granddaughters, Erin and Addison. She is also survived by her brother, Bob (Karen) Binding and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by cousins Pamela Hardisty, Evelyn (Wilf-deceased) Dowbiggin and Arnie (Dorothy-deceased) Charles. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Hamblin, brothers-in-law Ed (Martha), Tom (Kay), and her sisters-in-law Winnie (George) Nisely, Irene (Ralph) Calder, and her brother Fred Binding. Dorothy was born in Winnipeg on December 30, 1922 to Fred and Marian Binding. She attended school in Winnipeg, graduating from Kelvin High School. She went on to attend Normal School. She taught in Otterburne and then Dominion City. While in Dominion City she met a young farmer from St. Jean. She and Lloyd were married in 1945 and had 61 wonderful years before Lloyd's passing in 2006. Family and Community were very important to Dorothy. She was an active volunteer in all the organizations her children were involved in as well as many other community organizations. She was awarded membership in the Red Hat Club of the Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition. She loved to curl and curled in many bonspiels in southern Manitoba. She was an Honourary Life member in the Morris Curling Club. She was active in the United Church Women's, the Eastern Star, the Women's Institute, Rebekah's, and Toastmistresses. She substitute taught for many years and was also the driver training instructor. She was an active volunteer at the Red River Valley Lodge where she stayed the last year of her life and received the benefits of the many current volunteers that helped to make her stay there enjoyable. Dorothy loved her visits from her children and grandchildren and especially her great- granddaughters who brought enjoyment to her and all the residents at the RRVL and the Parkside Villa where she lived prior to her move to the Lodge. Dorothy loved her community work. She also loved to camp and fish and Lloyd and she had many wonderful times exploring various lakes in Manitoba and Northern Ontario. Dorothy loved to travel and had some great trips with Lloyd as well as several with her cousin Pamela Hardisty including a trip in 2008 to Bermuda. She has travelled to many sites in the US and Canada as well as trips to England, Alaska, and Hawaii. The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser and the staff at the Red River Valley Lodge for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Morris United Church, Box 90, Morris, MB R0G 1K0 or the Valley Regional Library, Box 397, Morris, MB R0G 1K0. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Morris United Church at 1:30 p.m. (corner of Lucinda St. and Ottawa Ave) with interment to follow at the Morris Cemetery. Viewing will be available at the Morris Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning prior to the funeral.
