Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERTA JEAN BROWNRIDGE (GRANT) (nee LOCKHART) October 29, 1933 - November 30, 2011 It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, Jean Brownridge. Jean will be lovingly remembered and missed deeply by her four daughters Gloria Grant, Judy (Arnie) Verwey, Dawn Maksymyk (John MacDonald) and Terri Grant (Murray Brown) her stepdaughter Marvie (Ken) Gordon, as well as 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Jean is also survived by brothers Bill (Flora) Lockhart, Al (Lorna) Lockhart and David Lockhart. Jean was predeceased by her first husband Bruce in 1972 and husband Don in 2007. Jean also survived the painful loss of two children to cancer: son Robbie in 2000, and daughter Lynn in 2009. Jean's first few years were spent on the farm in the Errol District near Lenore, MB. Jean worked for many years at her parent's general store in Lenore until she married Bruce Grant and moved to Brandon in 1951. They then moved to Melita for two and a half years before returning to Brandon and then eventually settling in Portage la Prairie in 1966 where she made her home for the next 45 years. After moving to Portage la Prairie Jean worked alongside Bruce at their International Harvester Business. Following Bruce's death she was an Accounting Clerk at Campbell Soup, Portage Co-op, Custom Home and Leisure and with Don at the Portage Curling Club and the Portage Golf Club. Jean loved to travel with her daughters and her family. She made five trips overseas and visited the British Isles three times always accompanied by different relatives. Jean also enjoyed cruising in the Caribbean and most recently enjoyed Christmas in Mexico. Jean and Don loved golf. One accomplishment she was proud of was getting the opportunity to golf in every Canadian province as well as at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland. Her extensive travel also allowed her to visit 48 US states. Jean and Don spent 12 wonderful winters in Florida where they made many lasting friendships. Jean and her best friend Marge Marsh had a ton of fun over the past several years spending time and pennies in casinos across Manitoba, North Dakota and best of all in Las Vegas, one of Jean's favourite places. Jean lived a long, healthy, and active life with lots of love from family and friends. Although life was not always easy for Jean she had strong character and was always able to pick herself up and keep going in a regal fashion. In lieu of flowers donations to McKenzie United Church Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Service will be held at McKenzie United Church, Portage la Prairie, MB at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2011. Lunch will be served following the service. A private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery. Arrangements by Ronald Moffit Memorial Services.
