EDWARD FRANK CHEREPAK October 24, 1935 - December 4, 2011 It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of almost 50 years, Victoria, his three sons, Barry (Gillian), Vincent (Katherine) and Timothy (Heather), his grandchildren Ravyn, Jarrett, Carson, Maya, Paige and Lucy, his brothers George (Diane), Ted and Bob (Candace) his sisters Sylvia (Tom), Shirley (John) and Gladys (Norman), as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Stella, and brother John. Ed was born in Winnipeg and resided in Morweena, MB on the family farm until 1960 when he moved to Winnipeg to pursue his future wife and a career in mechanics. In 1962 he married Victoria and moved to Gimli, MB where they started their family. With three sons in tow they operated a Texaco gas/bulk station for many years, later operating a muffler service shop. In 1979 Ed became an agent for the Winnipeg Free Press and retired in 2003. During the years of operating the Texaco, Ed became a Polaris snowmobile dealer as well as an avid snowmobile racer for over a decade from 1964 to the mid 1970s where he became better known in those circles as Steady Eddie . His most memorable and proudest moment, although he did not win, was when out of three attempts he actually finished the gruelling Winnipeg to St. Paul cross country snowmobile race. He was extremely passionate when it came to coaching baseball and hockey, volunteering regularly for anything hockey or baseball related, he took great pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren compete at any level. Ed was also an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was the kindest, most gentle man and would give a helping hand to anyone whenever it was needed. Dad, you will be forever loved and dearly missed by those of us left behind. May your star shine brightly until we see you again. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. R. C. Patel and the staff of the Gimli Hospital and to all the friends that are there in our time of need. In keeping with Ed's wishes there will be no funeral. A private family interment will be held in the summer of 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Foundation.
