VICTOR JOHN ROCHE (ROSCHE) With great sadness the family announces the passing of Victor Roche on Sunday, December 4, 2011. Victor was predeceased by his parents, Otto and Veiga; sisters, Josephine (Jim Dickson), Margaret (Siggi Sveinson), Tillie (Dori Sveinson), Shirley (Jonas Einarson); brothers, Arthur (Phyllis), Wilfred (Edna), William (Karen) and Harold; brothers-in-law, Jim, Siggi, Dori and Jonas; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis, Lillian and Edna; and his partner of many happy years, Margaret Harding. Margaret was the true love of his life and he missed her so much after her passing. He is survived by sister Ruth (Asgier Finnsson); brothers, Gordon (Audrey), Lloyd (Jeannette), and Margaret Jopp (Jack) and many, many nephews and nieces. He will also be greatly missed by Margaret Harding's family who respected and loved him so much: Sandra, Suzie (Allan), Irene, Candy, Judy (Henry), Larry (Edna), Wayne, Danny (Marlene), Terry (Charlene), Tracey (Barry) and Debbie and all their children. Victor was born on February 22, 1926 on the family farm in Hnausa, MB. After serving in the Second World War, he returned to help on the farm and became involved with commercial fishing off the shores of Lake Winnipeg, and then worked as a carpenter for a number of years. Wishing to remain in one area for work, Victor began a career at Canadian Fish and Neptune Fish, where he established a strong bond with the Page family. Victor had strong bonds with everyone who got to know him. He was the carpenter and mechanic for the businesses and he loved the times he would be sent to places on the lake to do maintenance and construction work. He especially loved staying at Hnausa and Riverton to work on the boats at Hnausa Dock. Even after retiring he kept himself busy working on projects, and looked forward to helping others with different tasks. He was a jack of all trades and a Mr. Fixit to so many. He always volunteered to babysit pets and homes in Riverton and Hecla Island when family members were away. He was passionate about nature and the outdoors, tools and cars, well-known to always have a vehicle in the most immaculate condition. Not only people, but animals had a special attraction to Victor. After being in contact with Victor even for a short while, the animals would ignore their owners and want to just be around Victor! He was one of the kindest, most gentle and considerate person you would ever meet. He was so respected and loved by all. A Celebration of Life service for Victor will be held in the spring. If friends so desire, donations in Victor's memory can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.
