FRANK LAWRENCE GILLIS Peacefully on Monday, December 5, 2011, Frank Lawrence Gillis passed into the presence of his Lord. He is survived by his wife Louise, two sisters Catherine Brown and Adair Bickell, one sister-in-law Arlene Rempel, and 16 dearly loved nieces and nephews and their families. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Catherine (Matheson) Gillis, his brothers, Charles (Daisy) Gillis, Bruce (Joan) Gillis, and sisters, Louise (Edward) Davis and Margaret (Ted) Yaxley, two brothers-in-law, Robert Brown and Ivan Bickell. After studying medicine for four years Frank alternatively joined the family business, Gillis Quarries, which he co-owned and operated for many years. He was a long time member of Bethesda Church and served in various capacities. As well, he was on the MacKinnon Foundation board and the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship. Frank was a man of integrity. He was loved for his gentle nature, his sharp wit and his sense of humour. His many interests included reading, puttering around at his beautiful Lake of the Woods cottage property, charting anything that could be charted and showing pictures taken with his unique 1958 Kodak stereo camera. The memorial service for Frank Gillis will be held on Saturday, December 10 at 2:00 p.m., at Bethesda Church, 1350 Grant Ave., Winnipeg. Donations in his memory may be sent to Victoria General Hospital, 2340 Pembina Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R3T 2E8 or to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Manitoba, 179 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1L5. The family would like to thank Dr. Cameron Lowden and the staff of 4 North at Victoria Hospital for their compassionate care of Frank.
