JEAN MOSTER December 16, 1913 - December 5, 2011 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jean, our dear Mom, at Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie. Mom died peacefully with her children at her bedside. She would have celebrated her 98th birthday in just 11 days. Jean will be sadly missed by her daughter Lynne (Dick) Laframboise of Portage, her son Clare (Shirley) Moster of Lockport, and her sister Alice Keay of Russell, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2000, parents William and May Patterson, sisters Bessie Munro and Mildred Spear, and brothers David (Second World War) and Walter. Jean was born and raised on the Patterson family homestead located in the Assiniboine Valley south of Shellmouth, where she completed her Grade XI. She was always active in sports: particularly softball, basketball and curling. After spending a year helping on the family farm, she then spent a number of years away doing domestic work for other families in the area. In 1942, Jean married Harold who was in the R.C.A.F. and immediately relocated to join him at his postings in Quebec and then in Nova Scotia, where Lynne was born in 1945. In 1946, they returned and settled in Inglis, MB where they resided for over 55 years. Clare joined the family in 1947. With Harold's early employment in the heavy construction industry, Jean played a major role in the early upbringing of the children. Jean also worked for many years as the custodian of the Inglis Collegiate, where she was assisted by Lynne and Clare, while they were still at home. She was active in numerous local organizations including the Canadian Legion, United Church Women, and as a 4-H leader. She continued with her sporting activities, especially curling and softball, until well in to middle age. Jean loved the outdoors, and her big beautiful garden and flower beds attested to this fact. She loved to accompany Harold to their favourite fishing spots on the local rivers, and on partridge and prairie chicken hunting. Her love of children was not only shared with nieces and nephews, but by all children in the community. She enjoyed needlework and knitting until her deteriorating eyesight no longer permitted. Jean was a dedicated wife, and looked after Harold full-time in his last years of failing health. After his death, Jean finally decided to leave Inglis and relocated to Portage la Prairie in 2003, where Lynne and Dick lived. Her health forced her to move in to the Manor in 2004. She always remained a dedicated supporter of the Inglis area, and was always interested in what was happening in her home town . The family especially thank the relatives and friends who took the time to stop in and visit with her over the last few years when she was no longer able to travel. She always cherished those visits, as well as the phone calls from those who could not visit. A special thank you to her good friend Winnie Halwas at Inglis. Mom always looked forward to hearing from her and being updated on the happenings around her home town. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to all the nurses and staff at the Manor. The loving care you provided, along with the compassion and kindness you shared with Jean will never be forgotten. Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service and interment at the Inglis Cemetery will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements entrusted to Ronald Moffit Memorial Services, Portage la Prairie.
