MARY MARGARET HALLETT (nee STAPLETON) On December 6, 2011, after a brief battle with cancer, Mary Margaret Hallett (nee Stapleton) passed away. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph, her first-born son George William, her parents John and Ella Stapleton, and her brother George Stapleton. Mary is survived by her sons Brian (Jackie) and Neal (Debra); grandchildren David (Ramona), Ryan (Charlene), Kyle (Krystal), Laura (Randy) and Sarah (Chris); great-grandchildren Abbigail, Lauren, Carley, Sam and Jaxson. She is also survived by her brother Wilfred (Betty), her sisters Beatrice Stodgell and Dorothy (Dan) Imlah, her sister-in-law Edith Stapleton, several nieces and nephews, as well as many special friends and family. Mary was born September 15, 1927 at home in Fisherton, Manitoba. She spent her younger years working on the family farm until she married Ralph and moved to Bissett, Manitoba where they lived for 32 years and raised their family. She was very active in the community in Bissett; she spent over 20 years working as a caretaker at San Antonio School and during that time, she trained to become a Community Health Worker and served the area as an ambulance co-ordinator and ran a health clinic in the school. There were very few people in town that had not been patched up, or tended to by Mary at one time or another. She was always there when she was needed, whether it was with her medical bag or a helping hand to anyone and everyone. When Ralph became ill in 1986 they returned to live in Fisher Branch and once again, Mary became involved with her community. She was a member of the W.I. in Fisherton and lent a hand to several organizations including the Horse Club, the cemetery committee and the hall committee. We used to love to tease her because into her 80s she would go and volunteer with the seniors'. In recent years, she started doing a little mending' with her sewing machine at home and soon she was busy with alterations, zippers and any job that required a needle and thread. Throughout her life she loved to craft and create; knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, paper tolle, leather work; if it could be created, she would give it a try. She has quilted several star blankets and given most of them to her close friends and family. Mary was a proud woman who loved her family and dear friends and would do anything for them. No matter where she was or what was going on, you could count on Mary to ask, What can I do?' She had a love for the simple things in life; old time music, a visit with family or a meal and a game of cards with her friends was her great joy. She truly was one-of-a-kind', and will be sadly missed. Our family would like to thank the nursing staff of the 4th floor Victoria Hospital for their kind attention to our mother during her illness; and to the CancerCare team at the Victoria General Hospital, the Health Sciences Centre and the St. Boniface Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Ukrainian Hall in Fisher Branch at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare or to a charity of your choice. FISHER FUNERAL HOME INC. In care of arrangements. Fisher Branch, MB (204) 372-6271 or 372-6803
