Hughine Dow died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 in Saskatoon, leaving family and friends to cherish the memory of a woman with an enormous capacity to make and nurture lifelong friendships. Hughine was born in Letellier, Manitoba on November 3, 1917. She enlisted in the RCAF (WD) from Stonewall, Manitoba and was stationed at Victoria for most of the Second World War. Following the war, she worked in Winnipeg and Stonewall. In 1954 she married Leslie Dow, whom she had met during their time in the service at the west coast, and they settled initially in Edmonton and later in Regina, where they raised two daughters, Lea and Loris and where she was an active member of Whitmore Park United Church and an energetic volunteer in the community. In 1982, Les and Hughine retired to their beloved west coast. With Sooke, BC as their base, they enjoyed 19 years of travel, gardening and participating in church activities before returning to the prairies in 2000. Following Les's death just a few months later, Hughine spent the last 11 years of her life in Saskatoon as a resident of Riverside Terrace, where she enjoyed being close to her grandsons. Predeceased by her husband Leslie and by her parents, Hugh and Adella and her brother Stuart, Hughine is survived by Lea and Dan Pennock and their sons, Luke and Owen, by Loris and Terry Martin, by her sister Agnes Robinson and her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Ken Tully, and by Doug and Jeannette Dow, Maisie and Alan Black, and their families. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Sooke, BC. Arrangements have been entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME (244-5577).
