SHIRLEY KAUK 1931 - 2011 Peacefully surrounded by the love of her family, Mom passed away on December 14 at St. Boniface Hospital to be reunited with her loving husband who predeceased her in 2004. Remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Karen, Keith (Barb), Ken (Deb), Gary (Shannon), Brenda and Les (Brenda); grand-children, Jason (Wendy), Denyne (Barry), Justin, Ashley (Kenny), Kyle, Meagen, Sabrina, Amanda, Trisha and Paige; great-grandchildren Jamie, Kaden, Konner, Colby and Addison; brother-in-law Wally (Del), sisters-in-law Lee (Art), Jackie and Gert as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Shirley was born on August 1, 1931 in Winnipeg, MB to Edward and Emma Maytum who raised her and her brother, Don in West Kildonan. In later years, they moved to Elmwood where through friends and church activities Mom met the love of her life, Stan, whom she married in 1956 and they were blessed with six children. Mom's priority in life was her family. We were very fortunate to have a Mom who was a true homemaker. She volunteered endlessly to support her children's activities whether at the school, community club, or church. As her family grew so did Mom's love as she welcomed her roles as mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mom enjoyed her nights out at bingo, playing cards with friends and family and the bowling leagues both her and Dad enjoyed together. We admired Mom's courage and strength in the loss of her hubby and her ensuing medical problems. Even in death, her caring nature continued as, with the donation of her eyes, she gave someone the gift of sight. Special thanks to everyone at St. Boniface Hospital for their care of Mom in the last few weeks. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Stroke Foundation. 586-8044
