JOYCE RILEY January 3, 1921 - December 4, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Joyce Riley on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital with her family at her side. Auntie Joyce was predeceased by her parents, sister Betty and brother-in-law Frank Murray and nephew Michael. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews and their families, Rob Murray (Sue, Robyn and Holly) of Winnipeg, Grace Tindall (Butch Isle) of Minaki, Susan McInnis (Jinx, Jordan and Riley) of Kenora, Tom Murray and daughter Lauren of Dryden, Dayna and Dan Murray of Ear Falls. Auntie Joyce immigrated to Canada in June of 1959 from Liverpool, England to join her sister Betty and family at Whitedog Falls. She worked at the Hydro commissaries in Caribou Falls and Whitedog Falls and then when the projects were complete, moved with the family to Minaki where she was employed by the Hudson Bay Company and Bayridge Store until her retirement in 1986. Auntie Joyce thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years and her good friends' company; daily walks with Barbara Morgan; afternoon Scrabble with Lil Kastner; weekly Scrabble with Margot Seefield and then the weekly Rummoli in the winter months with the girls . Auntie Joyce loved to tend her small flower beds in the summer and many of the summer residents have her beautiful phlox and lilies in their gardens. She was an avid reader and enjoyed swapping books with her friends or donating them to a fundraiser. When Auntie Joyce moved to Kenora last August, she was concerned that everyone would forget about her. They didn't. There were still the visits, weekly Scrabble game with Margot Seefield, lunches, dinners and movie night with her friends. Many of her family and friends celebrated a surprise 90th birthday party last Christmas in Minaki. She was so surprised that all of the people attending were there just for her. Although Auntie Joyce was living in Kenora this past year, she and the cats spent many weekends in Minaki where she was able to spend more time with family and friends. Auntie Joyce enjoyed her short time at the Parkview apartment block. The tenants were very friendly and she participated in the weekly movie night, bingo and a variety of social events that were always taking place. Auntie Joyce lived a simple life and thoroughly enjoyed her retirement years. She was a kind, generous, happy person who valued her family and friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Vaudry and the staff at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital and the Paterson Medical Centre for the wonderful care that was given to Auntie Joyce over the last year. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Brown Funeral Home Cremation Centre on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in Kenora, Ontario with Pastor Cathy Giroux officiating. Donations in her memory may be made to Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Kenora Handi-Transit, Kenora Cat Shelter or a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com BROWN FUNERAL HOME CREMATION CENTRE ENTRUSTED WITH ARRANGEMENTS.
