DORIS AMELIA BAMFORD Peacefully at Rock Lake Personal Care Home, Pilot Mound, MB, Wednesday December 14, 2011, Doris Amelia Bamford of La Riviere, MB aged 99 years, three days, beloved wife of the late George Robert Bamford (1996). Born on December 11, 1912 at Mowbray, MB, the fourth in a family of five to George Nadin and Margaret Ann (Porter) Nadin and the last surviving member of her generation. Predeceased by her father (1955), mother (1963), sister Violet (1997), sister Maud (1963), brothers Albert (2002) and George (1984). She is survived by sons Ron and Lyle (Val), grandsons Chad (Rachel) and Jason (Birchana), greatgrandchildren Olivia and Asher. To all of us she was always known as Gma B. Doris and George were married September 6, 1941 at Manitou and raised their two sons on the farm south of La Riviere where Doris also assisted in the family trucking and excavating business. Her grandsons were always an inspiration to her and she encouraged and supported them in all their endeavours. The highlight of her life was the arrival of her two great-grandchildren, the sun rose and set everyday on Olivia and Asher. Doris became an avid gardener at an early age helping her parents and continued planting a garden each spring for the next 93 years. She took pride in her fruit trees and flowers, especially her orchid which she received from Chad and Rachel in 2002 for her 90th birthday. It has continued to grow and bloom more and more each year. She meticulously groomed her farm yard and valley acreage, push mowing her lawn right through to this past summer. The family would like everyone to remember her in their own unique way. One way is to look over at the evergreens around her home beside the Pembina River when driving by. Mom planted each one of them, and after they grew up, smiled when finding more of what she called her babies , the little seedlings emerging out of the ground transplanting some later. She was a long time staff member with Ethel Later and Bernie Barclay at the Barclay House and with Noel Later at Holiday Mountain, being well known for her culinary talents by customers and family. Mom faithfully provided baking when asked for the annual La Riviere Fall Suppers and delighted in helping cut pies well into her nineties. She had a lifelong saying that a good day's work never hurt anyone . For years, Doris travelled extensively across Canada, the U.S. including Alaska, Mexico and toured Europe. Mom had a great love for the family's Shetland ponies and registered Hackneys and enjoyed going to the fairs and harness races with Lyle. She also enjoyed flying with Ron in his plane. At the time of her passing she still held a valid driver's license and until recently, would take the snowmobile out on the trail. She had a long productive life and we feel blessed to have shared in her love and guidance for so many years, leaving us with countless memories that will be cherished forever. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place with ash interment to take place at St. Luke's Anglican Cemetery, Pembina Crossing at a later date. Urn bearer will be her great-granddaughter Olivia Bamford. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, a donation may be made to a charity of their choice. The family was overwhelmed by the genuine concern and compassionate care given to her by Dr. Khoury, nurses and staff of all levels at Rock Lake District Hospital and Rock Lake Personal Care Home. To the residents who gave Mom such a warm welcome, thank you for making her feel like she was one of you in your very close knit family. Thanks also to Matt and Fred of Graham's Funeral Service for their professional and caring attention to all the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be made online at www.wheatlandfs.com.
