VIOLET MARTENS December 9, 1922 - December 15, 2011 Peacefully, at Riverview Health Centre, our mother Violet went to be with her Lord at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her husband John, her parents Frank and Marta Isaak, brothers Otto Isaak and infant Frankie Isaak. Left to cherish her memory are her son Kenneth (Louise) Martens, grandson Kevin (Patti), great-grandsons Coleson and John Martens; daughter Carolynne (Arie) Klapwijk and grandsons Courtney and Landry Klapwijk (Saskatchewan); sisters Mary Hewitt (Alberta), Nellie Zelmer (British Columbia), Marta Gelhorn, brothers Bruno (Esther), Isaak (British Columbia); sister-in-law Margie Isaak; close friend and sister-in-law Elsie Klassen, and many nieces and nephews. Violet married John Martens on July 11, 1942. They have been members of First Mennonite Church since their marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She encouraged her family to pursue what was important to them. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren unconditionally and was there for them. She was a cheerful, happy person and loved to visit relatives, neighbours and friends. She especially enjoyed her bridge club. One of the fondest memories was their 50th wedding anniversary when they took their children and grandchildren on a Caribbean Cruise. Mom and Dad travelled extensively. Just to name a few - Africa, Bali, South America, Europe and more. Mother affected many people with her kindness and was always ready to give a helping hand to those who needed it. She had a special place in her heart for her niece Lisa Pitt and her family. Mom had tremendous faith. We feel very blessed and thankful to have had her for our mother. We will miss her and remember her always. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Van Dyke and staff at Grace Hospital Emergency, to the Palliative home care staff, especially Mary Ann and Nurse Louise. On December 7, our mother was admitted to Riverview Health Centre where staff and doctors gave her compassionate care and treated her with dignity until her passing. Thank you to Dr. Mike for your pearls of wisdom. Thank you to Reverend Kathy Koop for visits and inspirational prayers. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., with viewing one hour prior, on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Violet's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Vera and I just want to offer our condolunces to the family and in particular to Ken and Louise. This is a difficult time for you and there is not much one can say right now that can really help you in your time of sorrow. Your Mother is with the Lord and will be celebrating Christmas with the Angels this year. God Bless you all. John and Vera - Posted by: John and Vera (Friends) on: Dec 21, 2011

My dearest Auntie Violet Martens passed away on my birthday. She was like a true mother to me, taking me under her wing. I have so many fond memories of her and respected her immensely. She was always there for me when I needed her in my teen years and later in my adult life. My husband Homer, daughter Nerissa and son Landon all are heartbroken as we will miss her phone calls, cards and letters and visits. Thankfully with Auntie's faith we know that she is another angel watching over us....Until we meet again Auntie we love you and miss you. - Posted by: Lisa Pitts (Niece) on: Dec 20, 2011
