IRA ARTHUR OWEN July 17, 1923 - Decmber 17, 2011 Ira Owen, aged 88 passed away suddenly on Saturday morning at his home - Vic Wyatt House. He was born in Bangor, Saskatchewan and was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Olwen Owen, brothers John, Vince, Danny and Elmer and his sisters May, Lynne and Florence. Ira leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life Sadie. He is survived by his brother Floyd Owen (Janet) and family of Mississauga, Ontario as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends. Ira was a long time member of the United Church of Canada and more recently was an original member and trustee of the United Church of Meadowood. Ira and Sadie spent many years wintering in Mesa, Arizona and many summers at their cottage in Matlock, Manitoba. An avid Bridge and Cribbage player, he was always willing to teach young and old the skills that he had learned. The best way to describe Ira would be wise, calm, great counsel, respected and never afraid to help someone in time of need. He loved music, sang in many choirs and loved the annual Christmas Cantata. He retired from CNR after 44 years of serving many communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Ira's life will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota St . Winnipeg, MB R2N3T7 at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Shelly Manley - Tannis and Dea. Richard Manley- Tannis will be presiding. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Meadowood United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
