SKAZYK March 5, 1933 - December 17, 2011 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Harold Skazyk, age 78, on Saturday, December 17, 2011. He will be remembered and forever missed by his wife of 56 years, Lillian; his children Gordon (Tracy) Skazyk, Brenda (Wally) Melnyk, and Lisa (George) Harrison, as well as his grandchildren Matthew (Kim) and Jordan Melnyk; Sarah and Dustin Skazyk; Bethany and Bryanne Harrison. His sister Anne (Hank) Yachison, brothers Peter (Francis) Skazyk, and Walter (Magdaline) Skazyk, brother-in-law Joe (Winnie) Lysak and sister-in-law Bernice Peternaik, as well as many nieces and nephews. Harold was predeceased by his parents Lena and Alex Skazyk and brother Bill (Elsie) Skazyk. Harold was born on March 5, 1933 in St. Andrews, MB, and attended Rossdale School. On May 21, 1955 Harold married Lillian Lysak and moved to Winnipeg. They were soon blessed with three wonderful children. Harold began his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway and taking a leave, went on to work as a Primary Products Meat Inspector with the Department of Agriculture. He later returned to continue his career as a locomotive engineer with the Canadian Pacific Railway. Harold lived his life to the fullest. Many of his hobbies and interests included playing as well as coaching numerous sports. His love of hockey led him to spend 21 years as the timekeeper with the original Winnipeg Jets. Upon his retirement he enjoyed playing senior baseball and bowling. He was proud to coach the CPR Winnipeg Thunder hockey team. Harold volunteered his time for many events throughout the city such as the Pan Am Games, World Curling Championships, World Junior Hockey Championship just to name a few. He also volunteered in the community delivering Christmas hampers, driving the visually impaired and with Meals on Wheels. Over the years Harold owned several race horses, his favourite being Hook the Dragon. He enjoyed many years at his cottage at Deighton Beach, Moosehorn, MB. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Harold never missed any of their events including hockey, dance, baseball, curling and school concerts. Grampa will always be remembered for his story telling and his memorable sayings. Harold grew up with a strong faith in the Lord and was a long time member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church. The family would like to thank the first responders, EMS and the staff at both Seven Oaks and St. Boniface Hospitals for their excellent and compassionate care. We love you Dad/Grampa. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 22, at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., at 10:00 a.m. Father Bohdan Lukie officiating. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Rossdale, MB. In lieu of flowers a donation in Harold's memory can be made to Blessed Vasyl Velychkovsky Shrine or the Welcome Home, care of 250 Jefferson. Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, December 22 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. at 10:00 a.m., Father Bohdan Lukie officiating. My condolence to Lillian and family. It was a treat to meet Harold in May of this year when Kim & Matt got married in St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church by Fr.Bohdan Lukie. May he be at peace. - Posted by: Frank Niesink (Family) on: Dec 21, 2011
