JAMES GORDON (GORD) HARRIS
Date of Passing: Dec 17, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES GORDON (GORD) HARRIS September 10, 1957 - December 19, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gord Harris on December 19, 2011 at the Stonewall and District Health Centre surrounded by family. Gord was born on September 10, 1957 and lived his entire life in Grosse Isle. He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, his wife Daphne, sons Charlie and Jeff, and daughter Lisa (Brenen); parents Jim and Helen, siblings Leslie (Rick), Kathy (Greg) and Cal (Karen). He will also be sadly missed by his mother-in-law, Audrey Cassels and sisters and brothers-in-law, along with nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many other family members and close friends. Gord loved his family and his friends both new and old. He will be remembered for his sense of humour, his infectious laugh, story-telling, great conversations and his genuine interest in the lives of everyone he met. He loved the simple things in life and paid attention to everything around him. He had an uncanny ability to remember the smallest of details. Gord attended school at Grosse Isle, Warren and then Red River College for his drywall journeyman certificate. Work at South Interlake Golf Course led him to take the Fairview College Grounds and Golf Course short course at Red River College, then he worked at Bel Acres Golf Course, Red River College and Warren Arena. He had a very strong work ethic, loved the construction work and took great pride in everything he did. His home and community benefited greatly from his construction projects. His interests included hunting and the outdoors, golf, hockey and baseball. He enjoyed coaching and watching his family in their various sports. A memorial service for Gord will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main Street, Stonewall. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you so wish, donations may be made in Gord's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or Stonewall District Palliative Care. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered, Come with Me . So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. We will love you and miss you forever. My sincerest condolences on the passing of Gord. The world will be a sadder place without him here but his presence will be felt forever. The one comment I will remember him for is "Don't buy green bananas". My wish for you, his family, is to be kind to yourself and "feel" your emotions - loss, sadness, grief, anger - don't try to run from them - face them in the moment - it will make you stronger. - Posted by: Berice (friend) on: Dec 28, 2011
