NELLIE KIRBY Peacefully, on December 18, 2011, Nellie Kirby passed away in the Concordia Hospital at the age of 86 years. Nellie is predeceased by her husband Leonard Kirby; her parents, Emily and Alexander Koblanski; brother Bill, and sisters Emily and Ann. She will be sadly missed by her children: Garry (Janice) Kirby, Tiny (Ross) Wallace, Jim (Laurie) Kirby; grandchildren Grant, Blake, Jordan, Paige, Heather and James; and great-grandchildren, Alec and Avery. Nellie will also be fondly remembered by her sister Rose (Charlie) Sciberras; brothers Allan (Sylvan) Koblanski and Bob (Maureen) Koblanski; sisters-in-law Florence Kirby and Martha Koblanski; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Nel married Len shortly after his return from serving in the Second World War. They raised their children in Elmwood and East Kildonan. Nel worked as an assistant buyer for Robinson-Little and Len was employed at C.N.R. Early retirement provided the opportunity to enjoy the next 20 years wintering in Mesa, Arizona and spending summers at Brereton Lake. Nel particularly enjoyed her time out at the lake where she filled her days cooking for grandchildren, tending her garden, taking walks with her neighbours and swimming off the dock (lifejacket assisted). Memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., south of the Royal Canadian Mint. Interment to follow in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital for taking such compassionate care of Nellie during the last few months.
