EDYTHE WINONA ALLEN (nee BROADBENT) 1916 - 2011 On Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, Winona Allen aged 95 years and formerly of Morden and Thornhill, MB passed away. Edythe Winona Broadbent was born November 2, 1916 in Morden to Lillie May (nee Kempthorne) and John Broadbent. She lived and attended school in Thornhill. On June 3, 1942, she married Leslie George Allen of Thornhill. They farmed west of Thornhill, moved to Morden in 1965 and to Winnipeg in October of 1967. She worked at the Convalescent Home on Hugo until she retired in October 1978. She loved her plants and garden, reading, doing crosswords and especially playing the organ. She had resided at Poseidon Care Centre since January 13, 2006 until recently. She leaves to mourn her passing daughter, Irene and Frank Kauenhofen, son-in-law, Harry (Doreen) Wheeler, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, John Broadbent (April 3, 1953), her brother, James Albert Broadbent (December 11, 1974), her mother, Lillie Broadbent (June 9, 1975), her husband, Leslie Allen (December 30, 1993), her daughter, Doreen Wheeler (July 3, 2010) and her son, Harold Allen (June 12, 2011). Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, 1050 Thornhill St. in Morden, MB. Interment will follow at Knightcot Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Winona's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
