Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONARDO PEREIRA Loving and dedicated father and grandfather, beloved husband of the late Maria Jose Pereira, Leonardo Pereira of Winnipeg, Manitoba passed away peacefully on December 18, 2011 at the age of 82. Born in Campos, Vila Nova de Cerveira Portugal on December 9, 1929 Leonardo emigrated from Portugal to Canada in the late fifties choosing to eventually settle in Winnipeg where he ingratiated himself in the community and spirit of the prairie. Leonardo's sense of humor, work ethic and generosity were the hallmarks of his character. His passion for family and demeanor never faded. He dedicated himself with equal enthusiasm in his volunteer work which centered around the love of sports and soccer in particular. Earlier in his life, he was a proud and active member in the Portuguese community of Winnipeg where he promoted the development of soccer and successfully managed the Portuguese Association of Manitoba soccer team for many years. His long-standing support to the organization was formally honoured in recent years by the Portuguese Association of Manitoba. Leonardo's interests also extended to wine making, travelling, and generally seeking out opportunities to stay in touch with family, friends and acquaintances. Leonardo, lovingly known as Pop or Bobo will be sadly missed by his children Nancy, her husband Peregrin; Paul and his wife Richelle and loving grand children Hannah, Lauren, Justin, Jenna, Aaron and Anthony. He is also survived by his sisters Amabelina (Fernando), Aurora (Luis) and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for the personal care and kind support provided to Leonardo. Prayers will be held at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. N., Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 23 at 9:00 a.m. also at the Parish. Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10 - 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2.
