Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER G. DUECK Our Dad, Peter G. Dueck was born on July 3, 1917 at Rudnerweide, near Plum Coulee. He died on December 19, 2011 at the Altona Community Memorial Health Centre at the age of 94. He was the oldest child of Jacob and Anganetha (Giesbrecht) Dueck. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Helena (Gerbrandt) in 1994 and two infant children. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Nettie Gerbrandt and Tina Zacharias; his brother Jake Dueck; and brothers-in-law, Jake Voth, David Zacharias, Jake Gerbrandt and Elmer Groening and Mom's Gerbrandt and Giesbrecht siblings. He is survived by his son Henry and Erna Dueck; daughter Margaret and Ernie Thiessen, daughter Esther and Abe Krahn, nine grand-children and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, John Dueck and Henry (Marie) Dueck; and sisters, Mary Voth, Margaret Gerbrandt, Agatha Groening, Lena Dueck; and sister-in-law Agnes Dueck, as well as Mom's Gerbrandt/Giesbrecht extended family, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He attended the Rudnerweide School until the family moved to the Rose Farm School District north of Horndean in 1927. After completing grade seven, he joined his father on the family farm and later also built three round roofed barns, houses for neighbours and several houses for his own growing family . On October 24, 1940, he married Helena Gerbrandt. In 1943 after serving as a Conscientious Objector, Mom and Dad moved to the farm at Lowe Farm, where the children grew up and attended school in Kane and Lowe Farm. Christian faith and the Mennonite Church were integral to Dad's life. He taught Sunday School, preached occasionally in area churches and was ordained as a minister in the Lowe Farm Bergthaler Mennonite Church in 1957. This led to work on the boards of Elim Bible School, Conference of Mennonites in Manitoba and Conference of Mennonites in Canada. Dad and Mom retired from the farm to Altona in 1980 and celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1990. After Mom's death in 1994, Dad moved to Centre Point Plaza and then to Ebenezer Manor in 2007 after a sudden decline in health. He was hospitalized for two months due to a stroke in August, 2011 but returned to his apartment for six weeks until he fell outside on December 1. He died in hospital on December 19. We thank the Home Care staff, Ebenezer staff, EMS and police personnel, Altona Hospital staff and Dr. Bueddefeld for their professional and compassionate care. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 29 at the Altona Bergthaler Mennonite Church with burial at the Altona Cemetery. Donations may be made to MCC or Mennonite Church Canada. Arrangements entrusted to: Wiebe Funeral Home Altona Ltd. 204-324-5404

I knew Pastor Dueck when attending the Bergthaler Church in Lowe Farm. Always appreciated his candid sermons and respected his ability to balance ministry, family and farm. My condolences to family. - Posted by: Garry Enns (Church ) on: Dec 24, 2011
