Joanne was born on September 26, 1925, to John and Tekla Marciniuk nee Szmigel in Poland and immigrated to Canada at two years of age. She grew up in Flatbush, Alberta and resided there until a tragedy struck their family and she was left an orphan. She moved to Winnipeg in the care of her Uncle Paul and Aunt Mary Szmigel, it was in Winnipeg a few years later that she met and married Nicholas Dubas on November 24, 1942, residing most of their married life in Transcona and lastly in Winnipeg. Joanne worked at the Bay downtown for 33 years as a cashier in the grocery department, a job she really enjoyed and of which she was extremely proud. She also loved her trips to Las Vegas with some of the ladies from the Bay, as well as her trips to various places in Canada, Cuba. Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico, Atlantic City and New York. The most memorable was visiting her homeland and family in Europe. Joanne had a young at heart spirit that many people who met her enjoyed and admired. Her family was extremely important to her and she lovingly gave of herself to them. Joanne was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas, in 2005; her father, John, in 1936; her mother, Tekla, in 1940; as well as her her two brothers in their early childhood.
