DIANE MARIE ZIMMER (nee RONCERAY) October 20, 1945 - December 23, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Marie Zimmer. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 45 years Lawrence, daughter Cheryl (Brian), son Kevin (Kirstin) and her two precious grandsons Tylo and Eric. Also left to mourn Diane's passing, brother George (Linda), and sister Sylvia ( Gary) as well as a large extended family and many friends. Diane was predeceased by her parents Albert and Virginie Ronceray. Diane was born and raised in Somerset, Manitoba. She and Lawrence made Winnipeg their home and Diane greatly enjoyed her work at CancerCare Manitoba where she was employed for 28 years prior to her retirement in 2003. While retired, Diane enjoyed spending time at the cottage and her travels with Lawrence and her family. She was especially proud of her children and her grandsons Tylo and Eric will always know how much they were loved by her. Diane was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was happiest when she was with her family and made every occasion a special one. We will cherish our memories of time spent together and our lives will be forever changed without her. Her kind, gentle and gracious spirit touched the lives of all who knew her as she made our world a better place. Thank you to the many family and friends who visited and offered support to Diane while she was ill. Your visits, cards, flowers and gifts all meant so very much to Diane and to all of us. Thank you as well to the many healthcare professionals at the Victoria and Grace Hospitals who provided such excellent care to Diane while she was with you. We also wish to express our deepest gratitude to all the staff and volunteers at the Grace Hospice for your tender loving care over the past weeks. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In accordance with Diane's wishes, a private family interment will occur at a later date. Condolences & Memories (22 entries)

  • Larry, Kevin Cheryl and families. We just heard about the passing of Diane. Our deepest sympathy goes to you all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I remember meeting Diane and Larry when we were building our fence. She was a wonderful lady who taught me to sign instead of always writing on paper and when I would make a mistake she would smile and show me the proper sign. You will be missed by all who knew you. - Posted by: Brian and Marie Rebizant (Neighbors from the back.) on: Jan 04, 2012

  • The world has indeed lost someone very special. Even though I didn't know sign language, Diane's big smile, gestures, and body language spoke volumes. It was Diane's comforting smile and 'thumbs up' that made me feel so welcome when I started working in Epidemiology and Cancer Registry. Diane was very giving; she was a mentor to many. She always took the time and made herself available to teach sign language to anyone in the office who wanted to learn, I just wish I had been a better student. I have very fond memories of working with Diane and feel fortunate to have known her. - Posted by: Cheryl Clague (Co-worker) on: Jan 03, 2012

  • Diane was the most wonderful person I have had the honour to know. Kind and thoughtful. She always thought of everyone else first. Her love for her Family was most important. She was so dependable as a co-worker and such a hard worker. Her sense of humour was the best. She played many pranks on me over the many years we worked together. The one that comes to mind first was when I was in the washroom stall. A roll of toilet tissue hit me on the head. I hurried out to see who it was and could not catch the person. When I got back to the office I could identify the person by the shoes. It was Diane and I think we laughed on and off for the rest of the day. In fact laughed every time we remembered it. One time she unscrewed the legs off my chair and when I went to sit down everyone was expecting me to fall off but for some reason it did not happen and I remained upright. But soon found the culprit. Again Diane. She would also pretend to answer the phone when it rang as well. How she knew that it rang I never knew but I then had to respond to the call trying not to chuckle. She taught me how to sign and I always got my f and d mixed up which she adapted to very nicely. Although we all worked very hard we still had time for fun. I will miss her so much. Love to all the family. Love Jeri Kostyra - Posted by: Jeri Kostyra (Friend and co-worker) on: Dec 28, 2011
