Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • My classmates and I are very sad to hear that Jean is gone. I am late with this because only learned of this yesterday at Grace Alumni Dinner in Wpg. We always admired Jean who was of course older than rest of class but she was so friendly and fun - we all enjoyed being with her. She did come briefly to our 50th reunion and so desperately wanted to get to the 55th. We did talk occasionally while she was still in Carberry. Jean will be missed Lorna Cowan (Birss) - Posted by: Lorna Cowan (Grace hospital 54B classmate) on: Jun 19, 2012

  • I will always recall Jean as a bright, energetic and spirited woman with a great sense of humour. In the years before 1967, when I moved east, I can recall seeing her at many Burns family gatherings in Winnipeg. On these occasions she was always interested in hearing of everybody's doings. I can still hear her hearty laugh. My wife Barbara and I last saw her in 1995, when we visited with her in Carberry. At that time she was still living in her house just a few doors down from her sister Laura Olmstead. As I recall, the walls of Jean's living room were covered with old family pictures, as befits a descendant of one of Manitoba's pioneer families. I regret not having had more time then to ask her who all of those people up on the walls were. We corresponded thereafter at Christmas time and over the years followed with interest her loving and proud stories of her niece Patricia and grand-nieces Charlene and Rhonda. We will miss hearing from Jean but take some comfort in learning that she retained her faculties and spirit until the very end. Our sincere condolences to all of her family and friends. - Posted by: Barrie Burns (Grandson of Fred Burns, who was a step-brother of Jean's father, Samuel John Meneer.) on: Dec 28, 2011

  • Jean was such a lovely person so gentle and kind. She will be missed in the family. She called me several times during the past few years always wanting to know about family. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Andrea Singbeil(nee Burns) (Distant cousin, grand-daughter of Fred & Emma Burns) on: Dec 28, 2011
