OLGA SWATIUK Peacefully, after a lengthy illness on Monday, December 26, 2011 at Concordia Hospital, Olga Swatiuk aged 96 years of Winnipeg. Olga was born in Sclater, MB on August 18, 1915. She was predeceased by her husband Roman (Rudy) in 1986 whom she was married to for two weeks shy of 50 years. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Ruth and husband Jerry Kruk; granddaughters Maryann Driver and her children Alexa, Devon, Noah and Luke and Carolyn Henrick and her children Claire and William. Olga loved to tend to her garden and had an expertise in growing almost anything. She lived simply but with purpose. Olga was caring and nurturing and loved to bake something special for the card games she played with her friends at Holy Family Towers. She was always there to mend a hole or stitch a rip with her creative sewing skills. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 30 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Babick, Dr. Pilat and all the staff on N3 East at Concordia Hospital for their love and compassion. We would also like to express our gratitude to all her friends at Kildonan United Church. Those wishing to make a donation in Olga's name, may do so to Holy Family Home, 165 Aberdeen Ave. R2W 1T9. Olga & Rudy were good friends & neighbours of my parents, Mary & Joe schmidt, in the 50's & later. They all enjoyed many card games & social events together. Rudy also provided transportation for my Dad to their mutual work place. Olga & Rudy were a very kind & hard working couple, proud & loving parents, who cared deeply for their neighbours & friends. They are remembered with gratitude. Helene Flynn & family - Posted by: Helene Flynn (daughter of Olga's friends) on: Jan 22, 2012

Hi Ruth and family, I was sorry to read about your mother's passing. I remember her well. She was always welcoming and cheerful whenever I came over and always made me feel like a special guest. Ruth, you probably remember my mother also. My mother just turned 97 and resides in good health at the Simkin Center. I guess they don't make them like that anymore. My condolences to you and your family. She was a special lady. Gilda - Posted by: Gilda Greenberg (childhood friend of Ruth) on: Jan 03, 2012

Olga was my Mother's (Anna Bylyna) friend. She enjoyed Olga's phone calls (when Olga lived in her apartment) stating "we could talk for hours!" She will have fond memories of a "very nice lady" and would like to pass along her deepest sympathy to the family. - Posted by: IBylyna (dtr of friend) on: Dec 29, 2011

The belated Mrs. Swatiuk was a childhood acquaintance of my father's family (Tony Matwe)and she was one of the very few left, who knew my Matwe grandparents. My mother, Katherine Matwe, got to know her at Holy Family Seniors Tower, where she appreciated her gentleness and sincere friendship. The visits I had with her, both at Holy Family Home and the Hospital were gentle reminders of my dad. Thank you for that, dear Mrs. Swatiuk. May eternal peace be yours. To the family (Ruth & Jerry Kruk & family) my prayers and sincerest sympathies. - Posted by: Sr. Theresa Matwe,SSMI (friend of family) on: Dec 29, 2011

I am the daughter of Dorothy Sopinick who was a resident of the Holy Family Sr's Tower. My mother passed in 2008. Through my Mom I got to know many of the residents there. I remember Olga as being a very sweet and kind lady. She was always very positive and active and someone my mother always cherished as a good friend. I remember in particular one holiday she told me she was baking lemon meringue pies for a family dinner. I found this so amazing as she was 90 at the time. God Bless her memory, vichnaya pamyat.
