Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOAN MORRISON Joan Morrison passed away on December 27, 2011, at Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. She was born Joan Louise Stephenson on July 26, 1931, in Winnipeg, to Harold (Bun) and Ruth (née Mylius). Predeceased by her brother Don and son Bob, she is mourned by sons John (Connie Calhoun) and David (Leni), daughter-in-law Linda, sister-in-law Pat, and grandchildren Robin, Heather, Stephen, Claire and Aidan, as well as many friends and extended family members. After attending Grosvenor, Laura Secord and Mulvey schools and Gordon Bell High School, she graduated from the University of Manitoba with a B.A. in English Literature. Joan married Gordon Morrison and gave birth to sons John (1953), Robert (1956) and David (1958). As the boys grew up, the family lived in Wildwood Park from 1957 to 1967 (except for a stint in Port Arthur in 1958), then on the Montreal West Island from 1967 to 1969, before returning to Fort Garry. Separated in 1976, she returned to school, completing an Honours B.A. in English Literature from the University of Winnipeg. After that, she worked several years as a teacher's aide in Winnipeg schools. While her children were growing up, Joan was active in the Y Neighbours program and on the Council of Women of Winnipeg, where she was made a life member. Having suffered a stroke at the age of 24, Joan lived the rest of her life with a limp and the use of only one hand. But such was her perseverance and determination that her children barely noticed her handicap. She was a fine mother and an intelligent and loyal friend to many. She will be greatly missed. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan's name to the charity of your choice. Thomson In the Park 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsoninthepark.com
