RONALD (RON) MOSES CHAMBERS Winnipeg, Manitoba - Ronald (Ron) Moses Chambers, 82, passed peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2011, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Ron is predeceased by his father James and mother Florence; his sisters, Cherry and Helen; his wife Charmaine; and son Jordan. Left to celebrate his life are his sisters, Margaret and Lynn; his son Kerry and wife Evelyn; his daughter Madelaine and husband David; his daughter Suzanne and husband Reg; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Those close to him will miss his charm, wit and sense of humour. Ron was born February 26, 1929, in Portadown, Northern Ireland. He immigrated to Canada at three months of age and was a lifelong resident of Winnipeg. After graduating from St. James Collegiate in 1947, Ron pursued his love for writing and performing stand-up comedy. Following his marriage in 1954 to his beloved Charmaine, he settled into real estate, contracting and property management, while still finding time to write and perform in comedy productions. Between 1968 and 1970, Ron and Charmaine co-wrote The Group - a national CBC production - in which Ron appeared frequently. In 1980, Ron joined Public Works and Government Services Canada and, in 1988, was presented an outstanding achievement award by the deputy minister. He retired from Public Works Canada in 1993. Ron was deeply committed to his family and acted as a devoted caregiver for Charmaine and Jordan for over 35 years, always cheerful and without complaint. Indeed, his compassion, empathy, forgiveness and love for others have been a lesson for many who have known him. Ron's expressed wish was to have no memorial or formal service. Donations in Ron's memory can be made to Jocelyn House Hospice, 177 Egerton Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2M 2W7.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Our father was a business partner with Mr. Chambers, and I came to know him as a friend of our family. I remember as a girl, my father would often say how much he appreciated the many talents of Ron. He, Roy Thornson, and my father Ross Rogan had a Real estate partnership called Tri-Ro Construction in Winnipeg, and they built and designed many homes there during the 1960's. May he rest in peace... Kathleen Foster (nee Rogan) - Posted by: Kathleen Foster (Daughter of an old friend of Mr. Chambers) on: Jul 10, 2013

  • I remember Ron with much fondness from a part of my life that is long past. I remember him to be a good person, who was dedicated to the work of PWC as a Tenant Services Officer when we worked together 1983-1993. That was before I left PWC in 1996 to enter the ministry of the United Church. We last saw each other at the funeral of Fred Instance - just before my ordination in 1999. Ron will be missed and I will remember him well. Blessings. Rev Dwight Rutherford + - Posted by: Rev Dwight Rutherford (Work collegue at Public Works Canada) on: Jan 01, 2012
