DOROTHY AILEEN BAILEY (COLLEY)
Date of Passing: Dec 22, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY AILEEN BAILEY (nee COLLEY) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Aileen Bailey. Mom made her final journey peacefully on December 22, 2011. Mom was predeceased by her husband Gordon; daughter Sharyn; son Thomas; parents Robert and Nellie Colley; brother Robert; infant sister and sisters Jean and RoseMary. She leaves to mourn in her passing her children, Robert (Carmen), Susan, George (Lucette), daughter-in-law Darlene, Gordon and Dorothy; grandchildren Jeff, Patrick, Claudia, Harmony, Coralie, Nadia, Steve, Gary, Joey, Sean, Krista, Casey, Chad and great-grandchildren, Felicia, Melissa and Bayley. I guess the heavens must have needed an outgoing, spirited charismatic and entertaining angel. Mom was such a warm, wonderful person, who made friends easily. Her dimples were always deep from smiling, talking and being friendly. She was quite the character with her cheeky tongue and practical jokes. Born in Welland Ontario, Mom joined the navy at 19 during the Second World War where she soon met and married Gordon Bailey. Together they raised seven children. They moved quite often, living in Quebec, Ontario, Alberta and Manitoba. Mom was a stay at home mom until she was 50 years old, then she started working as a housekeeper in Brockville, ON. Shortly after that, she would move to Manitoba, where she got a job working at the Gimli Betel Home. She enjoyed working at Betel as a health care aide and made some very good, close lasting friendships with her co-workers. After retiring, Mom spent a lot of time with family and friends. She looked after grandchildren, travelled to BC with her special companion, was an active member of the Gimli Legion and enjoyed living in Camp Morton. Mom always enjoyed having the grandchildren at the farm and they loved coming to Nana's. Nana always created fun, excitement and lasting memories for them. She spoiled all the grandchildren the best way she could. She allowed them to do whatever their parents didn't. Mom always enjoyed family and great friends, a cold beer on a hot summer day and dancing with Dad. She had a gift for one liners and a fresh cheeky attitude for anyone that got in her way. That attitude was with her right to the end. So in memory of Mom, don't be sad or shed a tear, just raise a glass for her in good cheer. Cremation has taken place and a springtime service, in Mom's memory, will be held in Ontario, then a service will be held later in Gimli at the time of internment. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
