OKSANA HALMA (nee DUBINSKA) It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Oksana Maria Halma. Oksana passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at the age of 83 years. Oksana is survived by her husband of 64 years, Theodozij; a daughter, Christine (Jim); a daughter-in-law, Debbie; and granddaughter, Allison (Jeff). She was predeceased by her parents, Jakiw (1930) and Stephania (1969); and also by her favourite uncle, Rev. Mychajlo Reshetucha (1961); many aunts, and her beloved son, George (2003). Oksana was born in Ukraine in 1928. Her father passed away when she was a toddler and so she was raised by her mother with the assistance of her grandparents, aunts, and her uncle. The Second World War cut short her teachers' college studies and somehow Oksana and her mother were able to survive. By war's end they found themselves in a displaced persons camp in New Ulm, Germany. It was at this location that she would come to know and marry her husband Theo. In July of 1949, with the help of her uncle, Oksana, Theodozij, and George were able to travel to Canada and they eventually started a new home in Winnipeg. Throughout her life, Oksana's main focus was on her family. The many friendships they made were also very important to her. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral with interment at All Saints Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193
