BERNARD TAYLOR March 21, 1946 - December 26, 2011 Bernard was a brave, courageous and kind man who succumbed to mesothelioma. He is survived by his wife Lisa, son James, parents Pat and Ray, brother Garfield (Janet), sister Sharon, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. Bernard was born in Dauphin and grew up in Roblin and Gladstone. He worked as an autobody mechanic/body shop owner in Roblin, Thompson, Leaf Rapids and Winnipeg until he got on with M.P.I. His skills as a bodyman and painter were well known amongst his peers. He enjoyed working for M.P.I. and much appreciated the comraderie of his fellow estimators. He loved playing hockey with the Old Timers and continued to do so for as long as he could. He tried to spend as much time as he could at the cottage, but that was also cut short by the dreadful disease. Bernard also enjoyed travelling, and toured Greece many times as well as visiting Turkey and England. Other memorable trips were to the Four Corner States and to Yellowstone National Park. Bernard loved life and never thought ill of anyone. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. At his request, there will be no service. The family wishes to thank the wonderful work of the Palliative Homecare Team in Winnipeg, as well as the Palliative Unit at St. Boniface Hospital, especially Neal and Lizanne. If anyone wishes to do so, please make a contribution to the University of Toronto's Mesothelioma Research Team led by Dr. Mark de Perrot.

Condolences & Memories (13 entries)

  • I remember some of the nights coming back to my house after hockey with the guys. Bernie was always the good host at my place, he would turn off the lights and lock the door when he left. I always would hide his right boot so he knew wich way to turn to go home. I also learned alot from Bernie when I first started out at MPI which I will always be grateful for. - Posted by: Rob Sykes (Friend/Team mate/co-worker/neighbor) on: Jan 16, 2012

  • Dear Lisa and James, We are so sad and sorry for your loss. Please know that if we were there in Winnipeg we would have visited and supported you through Bernie’s illness. Though we are not there we have him in our thoughts. Bernie was nothing less than kind and happy any time in the estimating room with his jovial attitude and stories of body shop days. No matter what the day was you could always count on Bernie for a smile and head nod. His easy going attitude was refreshing on a daily basis. As the supervisor at St. Mary’s Rd; I never had to tell him what to do he was always there when you needed him and I have to say he made my job easier. Bernie will be missed by many, I am glad we had a chance to talk on the phone and I will always remember him with fondness. Lisa and James, I wish all the support you have now gets you through this difficult time and know that Bernie is shining star above.
