CATHERINE MARGARET (KAY) FRIESEN On December 31, 2011 our beloved mom, Kay, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She leaves to mourn her absence and celebrate her home-going: her daughters Rae (John) Harwood and Norma-Jeanne (Ned) Vlacich, her brother Don (Marg) Reid, her grandsons Chris (Laurel) Harwood, Phil (Triscilla) Harwood, Tyler and Daniel Vlacich, great-grandchildren, Clara and Benjamin Harwood, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Norman, her father and mother John and Catherine Reid, and her brother and sister-in-law Lorne and Verna Reid. Kay was born on January 5, 1922, the eldest of three children, and lived on a farm in the Dugald area. She graduated from the St. Boniface Hospital nursing program in the early 1940s. Mom's faith was central to her life. She was always active in her church, leading Kid's Clubs and Ladies Bible studies both here and in Calgary. She was a great friend, and welcomed many people into her home. Mom enjoyed almost every kind of sporting event, but especially curling and football. Cremation and burial has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Christian Fellowship Chapel, 465 Osborne St. (at Brandon Avenue). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Christian Fellowship Chapel for the Chair Fund.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Over the years I always heard such high praise for Catherine within the family but it was only in the last 10 years or so I got to know her personally. I enjoyed so much our visits in her lovely apt, and her razor sharp mind was a delight to me! I admired how well she dealt with her Celiac condition . It showed her very practical nature; if certain foods were not good for her, well she just didn't eat them, period. I'll miss her on my visits to Wpg., but know she is FREE! - Posted by: Ruth Reid (Second cousin) on: Jan 04, 2012

  • So many great memories, most centered around CFC activities. Choir, hosting the youth group, being a wonderful friend to my parents, and to us. She had a great sense of humour, and a world class laugh! Beautiful. - Posted by: Barry Janzen () on: Jan 04, 2012

  • Our sincerest sympathies, She was a very informative, intelligent and caring woman who was a pleasure to talk and visit with. Regards, Robert & Ann - Posted by: Robert & Ann Reid () on: Jan 04, 2012
