LEONILA MERILLES October 8, 1958 - January 1, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, sister, auntie and great auntie Leonila (Yolly Geronimo) Merilles on January 1, 2012, at the age of 53 years. Yolly was predeceased by her father Simeon Geronimo, sister Tessie Geronimo and brothers Amado and Mario Geronimo. Leonila will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Rudy, stepchildren Romalyn, Christine and Marlou; mother Anda Geronimo; sister Dory (Ed) Mapola and their children Tracy (Jeff) Conception and Roy Mapola (Maribeth) and their daughter Sadie; brothers Henry and Lito; nieces and nephews in the Philippines as well as many friends and relatives both in Winnipeg and the Philippines. Before immigrating to Canada, Yolly was employed as a supervisor in a garment factory in the Philippines. In April 1997, she arrived in Winnipeg during a snow storm, wearing her shoes from the Philippines. That would be the first of many things that she would adjust to capably. She secured employment with Western Glove and Nygard International, as a sewing machine operator, and then with Lions Manor and Fred Douglas Lodge, as a dietary aide. Yolly quickly improved her English skills and enjoyed her new life in Canada. A few years later, she briefly returned to the Philippines to marry her husband, Rudy. They shared a very happy life together. She became a loving stepmother to Rudy's children, who loved and adored her as their mother. Lamay will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. with burial to take place in the Philippines. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
