EDWARD LICHTMAN
Date of Passing: Dec 31, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWARD LICHTMAN It is with incredible sorrow that we must announce Ed's sudden passing on December 31, 2011 at only 62 years of age. Always living the life he chose, Ed was a truly caring, loyal, and fun-loving person who took great pride in everything he did and all the people in his life. Mischievous like his father, Ed loved to tease and valued a good sense of humour. Ed was brilliant, with an MBA from Western and retiring from the CA profession not long ago. Not a suit and tie guy, Ed chose self-employment so he could stay focused on the truly important things in life. He was close to his family and his many friends. He was content. Ed met Shelley at a bridge tournament in 1975. They spent many happy years competing and socializing with the bridge crowd. Then Ed discovered golf. Few things made Ed happier than golfing with his family and his friends at St. Boniface Golf Club where he was a member for over 23 years. If it weren't for the snow, he would have golfed every day of the year. His passion for the game and its many lessons were always evident, and he was SO proud that Mindy followed his dream. Ed did everything for his girls. His unflagging support enabled Shelley to realize success and then change careers completely, finding joy in teaching for the past seven years. He never let her forget how much he loved and cared for her. Nor did he ever let Mindy forget how proud he was to be her father. He nurtured her passion for golf from the age of four and drove her to swim practice twice daily for four years. He gave her advice and encouragement every step of the way. When Mindy brought JJ into our lives Ed was delighted, sensing a kindred spirit who loves life and golf and who would take good care of his pride and joy. Ed also admired Mindy's career choice and was already starting to brag about her becoming a teacher. To say that Ed lived vicariously through his family is only partly true...without his endless faith in us none of it would have been possible. Ed was predeceased by his mother Sarah in 1978 and his father Sam in 2004. He is survived by his wife Shelley, daughter Mindy, son-in-law JJ, sister Tobi, brother Jack (Judy), mother-in-law Alva, and nieces and nephews: Ronna (Harry), Jason (Laurel), Craig (Maggie) and Sarah. Funeral services were held on January 2, 2012. Pallbearers were: JJ Wiens, Brian Dixon, Norm Promislow, Jason Lichtman, Craig Osman, and Greg Yakubovich. Ed's time with us, while much too short, was a blessing. We will remember him forever. If you wish to make a donation in his memory, please consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Humane Society.

Shelley, Was so very shocked and saddened to hear the news of Ed's sudden passing. My heart goes out to you for such a loss. Although it has been so very many years since I stayed with you and Ed that long ago summer of '83, I smiled when I read your tribute--you captured the good and kind and FUNNY person I had always remembered...and he most certainly was crazy about you--that was always so nice to see.
