HEDWIG HOHOL-MARTENS Hedwig Hedi' Hohol-Martens (Martens) born April 14, 1926 died peacefully on January 2, 2012 at the age of 85 leaving behind her a legacy of love. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Marie Nemis (Hohol) of Winnipeg; her granddaughter Jeanie, husband Ryan Alexander and their daughter Sophie; her grandson Sam Nemis; her granddaughter Mikyla Nemis and fiancé Wes Hildebrand; and granddaughter Allie Nemis as well as cousins Elli Wischnewski, Erna Martens and Hedy Martens; and aunt Else Dyck. Mom emigrated from Russia (Ukraine) to Canada in 1949. She worked hard all her life in Winnipeg sewing factories from the 1950s on but eventually retired from Home Care Services in the 1970s working with Alzheimer patients with the same love and caring she had for everyone. Her Faith in God, a strong moral code, her need for Freedom, and the hope that things would get better were the traits she had to survive the war that waged around her as a young orphaned girl of sixteen and that continued to help her face all future obstacles in Canada. Mom loved family celebrations, especially Christmas and she truly deserved the name, Mrs. Santa. She loved to laugh. It was mom's compassion for others that set her apart and drew others to her. However nothing was more important than her family and there is nothing she would not do for them. She was a loving mother and an amazing grandmother. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her and fondly remembered as a loving, compassionate person. Hedi's family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to the entire staff of Cornish 6 for all their love during the past months. Funeral services for Hedi Hohol-Martens will be held at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St. on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He sets me free. Mom, we will forever carry your love in our hearts. Bardal Funeral Home and Crematorium 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
