WALTER KASIAN August 22, 1921 - January 5, 2012 It is with sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Walter Kasian on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Lions Personal Care Home at the age of 90. Walter leaves to mourn his wife Olga of 62 years; son Dennis (Vivian) and granddaughters Laura and Melissa; son Donald (Gillian and daughters Anika and Chloe). He is survived by sisters Sonia Drewniak, Olga Swidinsky, Doris Idachuk and Stella Mikolayanko and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by granddaughter Alizé Kasian; parents Michael and Anastasia Kasian; sisters Mary, Lena, Anne, Kay and Pauline; brothers Joe, Peter, John, William and Andrew. Walter was born at Rosa, Manitoba on August 22, 1921. His early years were spent on the farm. He worked at the Department of National Defence, Winnipeg from 1955 to his retirement in 1982. He was a founding and active member of the St. Josaphat's Parish. He enjoyed fishing, camping, travelling and spending time with family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Lions Personal Care Centre for their exceptionally dedicated and compassionate care of Walter during the last seven years of his life. Prayers will be held on Monday, January 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 10 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Josaphat's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 590 Alverstone Street with Rev. Father Michael Krochak officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, or the Parkinson Society of Manitoba. 586-8044

I had not seen him in many years, however, I have fond memories of him being a fun smart person to be around. He and Olga kept close contact with my Mom which she loved and I appreciated.
