MARGARET AGNES WOTHERSPOON Mom passed away on December 21, 2011 at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. Born in Calgary on May 21, 1915 to Ivy (Leiper) and Estey Folkins; she graduated from Calgary General Hospital as a nurse in 1937 and married the boy next door on November 17, 1939. She was predeceased by her husband Tom after 50 years of marriage. Together they enjoyed the world from campgrounds and cottages to cruise ships. The families of her four sisters and sister-in-law provided her with continuous opportunity to always have a bed available and the dinner table formally set. Many friends, nephews, nieces and cousins fondly remember the famous backyard BBQ suppers on Clare Avenue in Winnipeg. Over the years with the family homes in Trail, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg and Victoria, Margaret developed endless friendships through her sisters' and sons' friends, neighbours, bridge clubs, square dancing, badminton, nursing alumni and the Oak Bay United Church and Thrift Shop. All of these activities only made her Christmas card letter list grow longer each year. Many thanks to the caring staff of 3rd floor North at the Jubilee Hospital Patient Care Centre during her brief stay and to the management and staff of Carlton House, Oak Bay who made her feel comfortable and welcome over the past five years. A special thank you to the Schoderbeck and Wotherspoon families of Victoria, who included Mom in their family events and provided care and support in her recent years. Mom was also predeceased by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Audrey (Jack Jamieson), Hazel (Stan Wilson), Ethel - who died the day following (Parley Christensen) and Ray Schoderbeck. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Bill (Barbara), Don, Paul (Eileen); her grandchildren: Diane, Karen, David, Michael, Lindsay (Guillaume Frelot) and Kate; her great-grandchildren: Darren, Tyler and Erika; her sister Grace (Marc Marcolin) and sister-in-law Peggy Schoderbeck. A private family ceremony was held at Royal Oak Burial Park on January 4, 2012 where Mom now rests next to Dad. Donations may be made to the Oak Bay United Church Building Fund, 1355 Mitchell Street, Victoria, BC V8S 4P9. Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I remember what wonderful friends Margaret, Dorothy Ford (mother-in-law) and Jean Ibbott were on Clare Ave. I happily took good advice from all of them many times. When Raymond and I lived next door to Margaret and Tom on Clare they were wonderful neighbours, always ready with a helping hand. I remember them all fondly.
