ESTHER ROMAN October 21, 1917 - January 8, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Esther Roman at the Simkin Centre. Esther was predeceased by her loving daughter Gail (1982), her beloved husband Joseph (2008), her parents Bessie and Louis Fainstein and stepmother Celia. She was the last remaining sibling to Saul, Harry, Arnold, and Dorothy. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Beth (Jerry) Goldenberg, Linda (Elliot) Katz, grandchildren Jonathan, Sharon, Laura, Shechar, Matthew, Jessica, Leanne, Sari, Sara and Blake. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Ben, Jonah, Shoshana, Jory, Janna, Kylah and Elodie. Born in Canora, Saskatchewan her family moved to Winnipeg after the death of her mother. During this time she, Saul and Harry formed a special relationship that was to last a lifetime. With the birth Arnold and Dorothy, new bonds were formed. Dodie always said our Mom was the best sister and friend anyone could ask for . Esther met Joe during a long weekend in Clear Lake, followed by romance and marriage lasting 65 years. Esther and Joe were a team, from raising their family, including devoting much time to their daughter Gail, to later working together in real estate. They enjoyed many retirement years together including winters in Palm Springs. Esther was often described as such a sweet lady, and she truly was. Her family has wonderful memories of her culinary skills at family dinners and holidays. She was into a healthy lifestyle before it became the norm. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. After raising her family, and at a time when most people consider retirement, she began a successful career in Real Estate, from which she retired at age 75. A special thank you to Sara Reid, Dr. Sheldon Koven, her devoted companions and the entire staff of the Sharon Home, all of whom went above and beyond our expectations in caring for Esther in the most compassionate way possible. Those wishing to honour Esther's memory can make donations to the Alzheimer Society, the Sharon Home, or charity of your choice.
