GERALD DANIEL HARDER The family of Gerald Daniel Harder announce his passing at the Carman Hospital on Thursday, January 5, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Donna; their children, Myles, Carolyn (Jason) Porte, Evan and Angela; and his precious granddaughter, Zahra Porte. Surviving siblings include his brother, Ken Harder, and his sisters Helen (George) Nikel, Pat (Al) Barkway and Leona (Stuart) Carnegie. He was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Wallie (nee Forster) Harder, and one sister Frances (Peter) Koshowski. Gerald was born on October 14, 1941, fourth in a family of six. He was raised on the family farm north-west of Carman in the St. Daniel area. He attended St. Daniel School and later received his Agriculture Diploma at the University of Manitoba, graduating in 1961. The only career he ever considered was farming. He was involved on the executive of such farm organizations as the Manitoba Corn Growers, the Carman District Farm Business Association and the Manitoba Buckwheat Growers. Even holidays were farm tours. His favorite hobby was collecting and restoring antique tractors. Hunting and fishing were favorite recreational sports. Hockey and baseball were avidly followed. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at the Friends Community Church, Carman, MB.
