ETTA AGNES GRACE LEVEQUE R.N. (BURRILL)
Date of Passing: Jan 05, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryETTA AGNES GRACE LEVEQUE R.N. (nee BURRILL) Peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2012, at Misericordia Place, Etta passed away at the age of 92. Etta was born in 1919, in Elgin, MB, and grew up as one of a large family on her parents' farm. She moved to Winnipeg to attend nursing school at the Misericordia General Hospital and graduated as a registered nurse in 1941. When she married in 1947, she left nursing to raise her family. Nursing was however her passion, as she remained involved with the Misericordia Nurses Alumni for many years and served as the editor of their bulletin, and founder of the Life Membership Program. Our mother was also active with the Catholic Women's League, and was for a time President of the St. Boniface Liberal Women and travelled as a delegate to the convention when Pierre-Elliot Trudeau was elected Liberal Party Leader. She returned later to nursing on a full time basis where she served as the evening coordinator at Taché Nursing Centre until she retired in 1985. Etta was predeceased by her husband G.J. Arthur Lévêque; sisters Velma, Mildred, Beulah and Rose; as well as brothers, Bruce and Alfred. She is survived by her sister Pat Parker; her daughter, Kathleen; sons, Norman (Louise) and Paul (Lynn); grandsons, Daniel Lévêque and Ryan Jillard (Keri); granddaughter, Sarah Lévêque; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Misericordia Place for their excellent and loving care given to our mother. Funeral service and interment will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, with refreshments to follow. Viewing will be held half an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Etta's memory to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation. My Great Auntie Etta was such a gem. I will always remember visits to the family home in St Boniface. It was so much fun. And Auntie Etta was always so formal with names. I will remember her fondly whenever someone calls me Kimberly. Aunt Etta was so proud of her nursing career. She loved to share her alumni stories. I will also remember her love of photos and her calendar. She wrote everything down so to be sure not to miss it. Heaven is a richer place with another great caregiver. Rest in peace Auntie Etta! Our deepest sympathies to Norm, Kathleen, Paul and family, Love Kim & Lawrence and the Lewarne family - Posted by: Kim Lewarne (Great Niece) on: Jan 10, 2012

Auntie Etta was a wonderful person and very family supportive. If possible, she never missed any family gatherings and never an occasion of her or Uncle Art's godchildren years ago. - Posted by: Laurette & Wayne Pringle (Aunt and Godmother) on: Jan 10, 2012

Etta Leveque was my aunt & was a wonderful one at that. She was a second mother to me when I moved to Winnipeg in Feb./1977 to become an LPN...I will always cherish the many times she invited me over & cooked me a meal....was a constant support to me & also a friend. She is a wonderful, caring human being who I am so privileged to have had as a part of my life. Her memory will live on the lives of all she touched. My sincerest sympathies to my cousins Kathleen, Norman & Paul in the loss of your dear mother. My thoughts & prayers are with you at this difficult time.
