WALTER LEE On January 9, 2012 Walter, beloved husband of Betty, went home to God after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family at his passing and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Walter was born on June 4, 1932, at Wakupa, MB, a town that no longer exists. His family farmed there, as well as Libau and Teulon. While visiting a cousin in Winnipeg, he met a city girl, Valerie, and married her during the blizzard of March 1966. Their marriage lasted until her death in 1998. Walter and Betty were married on August 16, 2003; both families were thrilled for their parents. Dad's trade was a welder, at Abex/Amasco from November 1964 until his retirement in November of 1994. His hobby was hunting and target shooting with rifles and bows alike, but his true occupation was talking. A visit from Walter always included a wide-ranging conversation; we will all miss talking with him. He was an active member in St. Clement's Anglican Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #42 in Selkirk, as well as the Over 60 Club. Left to remember Walter are his wife Betty, daughter Sandi (Rod) Jones, granddaughters Viola and Rosalynd, brother John (Anne) Lee, brother-in-law Jerry Barnard, nieces and nephews, and all of the Burzuik family: Doug (Judy), Garry (Lorrie), Joan, Sandra, Mike (Miriam), and many grandchildren especially Kelvin, Keith, Chris, Karrie, John, Mason, and Molly. Honorary son Vic Spicer, extended family Laurie Barylski, and many more friends and family will all cherish thoughts of him. Walter was predeceased by his parents John (Pearl), his first wife Valerie, infant son Stephen, sister Margaret, and son-in-law Bill. Betty and Family thank the physicians of Selkirk and District General Hospital, especially Dr. Dupreez, Dr. H. Demsas, and Dr. M. Sakla, and to all staff of Selkirk and District General Hospital for their excellent care and their kindness shown to Walter and all of his family. Donations to the Palliative Care Unit at Selkirk and District General Hospital, or St. Clement's Anglican Church Building Fund, in lieu of flowers, would be appreciated. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, MB. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
