DOUGLAS JOHN CHIPLIN
Date of Passing: Jan 10, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS JOHN CHIPLIN After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's, Douglas John Chiplin passed away peacefully on January 10, 2012 with his family by his side. Doug was born on August 4 1936, the only child of Tom and Winnifred Chiplin. His parents farmed outside the tiny hamlet of Edrans, MB. Doug was proud that he grew up in log cabin with a dirt floor and, when the snow was especially deep, went to school on a stoneboat drawn by his father's plow horse. Doug left school early to help his family and, before he was 18, had moved to Winnipeg where he drove a delivery truck for J. G. McLean. It was while making a delivery to Shield's Pharmacy that he met the love of his life Darlene. They were married in 1956. Doug's desire to improve himself led him to try a sales job with Security Moving Storage. It was immediately apparent that he had found his calling. His outgoing nature, courteous and professional approach, and willingness to work extremely hard quickly made him successful. He later moved to Star North American Van Lines, where he became the Area Sales Manager, and, eventually Sales Manager for Western Canada. He won numerous sales awards and created a sales training program used by many North American franchises in Canada. When North American closed its Winnipeg offices, Doug semi-retired, but continued to represent a couple of smaller local moving companies. Doug was a devoted family man, and loved to spend time with his wife, daughters and later, his grandchildren. Although he enjoyed travelling, he took equal pleasure from puttering around the house and in the yard. Doug loved cars, and could tell you the complete specs on every one he had ever owned. He was also very knowledgeable about the history of Winnipeg and enjoyed reading stories and looking at photos of the Winnipeg that was. Doug's memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 55 years, Darlene, his daughters Donna Typliski (Ron) and Debra Chiplin (Richard Nakoneczny), grandchildren Campbell and Alannah Hallas, their father Brad, and many longtime friends. He was predeceased by his parents, his half-sister Barbara Duffey, and an infant brother. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff of Golden West Lodge and appreciates the tremendous value to the community provided by the Salvation Army. Doug was affectionately referred to as Mr. C by the staff at Golden West who looked after him as a member of their extended family. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will take place at a later date. To honour Doug's memory, the family asks that you consider making a donation to Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Road, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0S8.

I am reminded it has been a year since this was in the paper. It still hits home that a man's life has passed - one that touched the lives of many and was at the heart of a true love story. Every day I had the priviledge of seeing first hand just what love and support is all about. To see a family so committed and never falling short of coming through for each other, leaves me humbled by this experience. This will forever serve as a reminder of what life is really all about. My thoughts and prayers are with you. - Posted by: Max Harris-Janz () on: Jan 14, 2013
