ALIDA EMILY PHANEUF On Friday, January 13, 2012, Alida Emily Phaneuf passed away peacefully and gently at home, surrounded by her family. Left to forever cherish Alida's memory is her beloved husband of 51 years, Eugene; son Real (Michelle), Danielle, Nicole and Monique; daughter Janice (Willie) Butler, Brittany and Brendan; daughter Wendy (Edward) Sikora; and son Rene (Sandy), Cassandra and Renelle; brother John; sisters, Marie, Celine and Dorothy; and her large extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Henri Lafferty and Marie Mercredi; siblings Germaine, Alphonse, Magloire, Antoinette, Margaret, Agatha and Jeanette. Alida was born December 23, 1934, in Stony Rapids, SK, to a large loving family. An extraordinary wife and mother, her world centered around her family and friends. She created a loving family home and an enduring foundation of Faith in the lives of her children. Alida's trust in God and her gratitude for his blessings were evident in all she did. She was a dedicated member of St. Charles Ladies Association and the Catholic Women's League. Alida's seven grandchildren were the joy of her life and she created a unique and loving relationship with each one. Grandma's house was the place to be and nothing beat her hugs. Her deep concern and love for others was an inspiration to all those whose lives she touched. She could always be counted on for a word of loving encouragement and a helping hand. In her quiet, gentle way she served others and set a powerful example for us all. Alida was a woman of remarkable talents. Her gift of hospitality reached many people and our table was always surrounded by family and friends. Her creativity was endless she was a skilled seamstress, creating exquisite wedding gowns for her children and many others. Alida's Christmas arrangements decorated many homes and adorned our Church each holiday season. Alida and Gene loved travelling and made many trips over the years (including the occasional stop at the casino). On their 50th Wedding Anniversary, Alida enjoyed the trip of a lifetime with her entire family in Maui. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles Street. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Thursday morning, January 19, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. also in the Church with Rev. Fr. Paul J. Tinguely presiding. A private family Entombment will be held in St. Charles Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Pat Harris and Grace Cancer Care as well as Louise Dansereau and the Palliative Care Team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honour of Alida's memory to the St. Charles Parish Building Fund. Rest in peace Mom

To the Phaneuf family. We are deeply saddened by the passing of Alida. I (Kathy) have only recently had the pleasure of getting to know Alida and her wonderful family. You have all made such a great impression and impact on my life. I know what a special person she was to you and the entire community. Something that showed me how much she meant to the community was when she came to the pancake breakfast at the church and everyone stood up and applauded because they were so happy to see her. She will be deeply missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. - Posted by: Mark Souce and Kathy Gruszecki (Family Friend) on: Jan 20, 2012

Dear Gene, Real, Janice, Wendy, Rene and families. We cannot tell you how sorry we are to hear of your Beloved one, Alida's passing. What a loss for everyone who knew her. She taught us quite a lot including how to be kind and patient with people. She was such a great help at our daughter's shower, decorating the baskets. She also made two beautiful flower arrangements for our daughter Marnie's wedding which can still be seen in St. Charles Church. She whipped up some very tasty meals for us at a moment's notice. We enjoyed many an evening together. Alida will be missed terribly. Take care my Dear, Dear Friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. ALIDA PHANEUF made my wedding dress in 1989! I will always remember and appreciate her kind way, paitience, and amazing seamstress skills. She made a beautiful job of my dress, and made that time so very special for me. My husband Doug and I always think of her when we look at our wedding pictures and share memories with our 12 year old son Alan. Alida also made all of the bridesmaid's dresses which turned out perfectly! Our condolences to her family. Take a little comfort in knowing that she will be fondly remembered always, by the Fidler-Elson Family in Calgary. Thank you Alida - Posted by: Susan Fidler-Elson (Made my Wedding Dress) on: Jan 17, 2012

Our lives were forever touched with love, life, laughter and good food when we visited the Phaneuf's and Auntie was always the centre of it smiling and loving each and every one of us. We are so grateful we had the opportunity to see her at Wendy's wedding and to talk on the phone in the past weeks. We are going to plant a beautiful shrub in Fiji, in her memory and will watch it grow, bloom and flourish. When Auntie visited us at our home in Fiji, she loved walking in our beautiful gardens making floral arrangements for us. We love and miss you Auntie, but will see you again one day. The angels have come and taken you to heaven. Rest peacefully. Much, Much Love. - Posted by: Claire and Ron Voldeng (Neice) on: Jan 17, 2012

It was only a few short months ago we were able to get together and spend time with you, Uncle Eugene and the rest of our amazing cousins in Winnipeg. You looked fantastic and I enjoyed spending time chatting and hearing the stories being told. Growing up I remember all the fun times together in Squaw Rapids fishing, camping, hanging out on Early Drive. Great memories! Uncle Eugene, Real and Michelle, Janice and Willie, Wendy and Ed, Rene and Sandra, our thoughts and prayers are with you all and the kids during this sad time. There are so many wonderful memories that we can hold onto to help us get through the loss of our Auntie. I have to share one - we brought Auntie Alida and Uncle Eugene onto the chartered Roughrider bus to the stadium in Winnipeg for the Banjo Bowl about 4-5 years ago. Auntie was so happy in the small sea of green fans where we sat. Uncle was such a good sport - the only Bomber fan on the bus and sitting amidst the visiting Rider fans....Rest in peace Auntie. Praying for peace and comfort for Uncle, cousins and their children. - Posted by: Teresa & Lou Bomersbach, sons Brody & Ricky (niece) on: Jan 16, 2012

Gene and family, I know that words are inadequate at a time like this but I want you all to know how very sorry our family was to hear of Alida’s passing. I remember her gentleness and wonderful smile and laughter but most of all I remember how much love she gave to her family and friends. She truly was an amazing woman. I once heard a saying “it is not how long the flower blooms but how beautifully“ Paradise now has the most beautiful flower in it’s garden. May your faith in God and the love of all those who knew and love her, help you get thru this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: CINDY BUTLER WATTON (WILLIES SISTER ) on: Jan 16, 2012

Uncle Gene and family, we share your grief. We cherish the many wonderful memories we have of Aunt Alida – she always made everyone feel so welcome and so loved. I treasure the memory of the joy she radiated at Wendy & Ed’s wedding short months ago. The way her face lit up whenever she saw you - you were the deeply valued treasures in her life and she was so proud of all of you. A mother's love is an amazing gift. I hope the many wonderful memories of joyful times together comfort you to as you gather to celebrate a life well lived, a woman well loved.
